Box Score

NAIA Men's Tennis National Tournament

MOBILE, Ala. -- Lindsey Wilson men's tennis advanced into the NAIA National Tournament quarterfinals with a 7-0 win over Concordia (Calif.) today at the Mobile Tennis Center.

The No. 8-seeded Blue Raiders advance to face top-seeded and No. 1-ranked Embry-Riddle (Fla.) at 9 a.m. CT on Thursday.

After receiving a bye into the second round, Lindsey Wilson (17-3) wasted little time seizing control of the match over unseeded Concordia. The Eagles (12-13) won yesterday 9-0 over Doane (Neb.) 9-0 in the first round.

Lindsey Wilson won all three doubles points -- a pair of wins proved to be easy victories.

Fabricio Morales and Marlon Dal Pont improved to 8-0 as a pair with an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles over Micah Groom and Patrick Szeremeta. The win gave the Blue Raiders the 1-0 lead.

Pablo Vilches and Gilles Cornelis quickly followed with a second Lindsey Wilson point after an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles over Marc Reddmann and Farren Casad. Vilches and Cornelis improved to 9-1 on the season with the win.

The top doubles match proved to be the best match of the day.

Fernando Bogajo and Francisco Charters completed the doubles sweep in a tiebreaker to give Lindsey Wilson the 3-0 lead. Bogajo and Charters outlasted Bruno Klinkinic and Chris Wickenhauser 7-5 in the tiebreak to take the match 9-8 (5).

Lindsey Wilson -- ranked No. 8 in the final NAIA Coaches' Poll -- carried over its doubles momentum into the singles.

Needing just two singles wins to clinch the team match, the Blue Raiders won four matches -- all in straight sets -- to secure the 7-0 win.

Morales, Dal Pont and Cornelis each won by surrendering just two games while Vilches beat Szeremeta 6-4, 6-4 to complete the match. Two matches were halted once the necessary points were reached by the Blue Raiders.

With the loss, Concordia -- ranked No. 10 in the final coaches' poll -- ends its season at 12-13.

The Blue Raiders meet Embry-Riddle on Thursday in the national quarterfinals. Embry-Riddle (21-2) defeated Northwestern Ohio 5-2 today to advance.

Lindsey Wilson is making its third appearance in the national quarterfinals. The Blue Raiders have lost both previous matches in the quarterfinals.

First serve is set for 9 a.m. CT.
