Box Score LEBANON, Tenn. – Bre Elder's 10-point, 11-rebound double-double and Chanel Roberts' 18 points were not enough as Lindsey Wilson fell 68-51 to Cumberland (Tenn.) in Mid-South Conference action Thursday night.
The Blue Raiders (14-5, 4-3) came into the game ranked fifth in the nation in free throw percentage (.740), but only made it to the charity stripe twice all game. Cassidy Martin scored all nine of her points on three-point shooting, while Keosha Wisener came off the bench to contribute nine points.
Cumberland opened up the scoring with a 5-0 run, but Lindsey Wilson responded with an 11-3 run of its own to take an 11-8 lead at the 13:15 mark. The Bulldogs' TaCouya Allen tied the game at 11-11 before both teams exchanged the lead three times. Cumberland took a 23-21 lead as Allen made a three-pointer with 7:12 left in the half. Cumberland benefitted from two 5-0 runs as the Bulldogs pushed their lead to 37-29 at the break.
Lindsey Wilson made three three-pointers in the first half, but never went to the free-throw line. The Blue Raiders committed nine personal fouls to the Bulldogs five, with Cumberland shooting 8-of-11 from the charity stripe.
Allen scored 23 points and Katie Smith recorded a 14-point, 12-rebound double-double to pace the Bulldogs (8-7, 4-3). Casie Cowan made seven field goals to add 16 points while Tasia Blue put up 10 points and Smith added three blocks.
Lindsey Wilson looked to fight back in the second half, but could never climb back into the game. Cumberland chipped away at the clock, using most of the shot clock on each of its possessions while extending its lead by as many as 19.
Martin made a three-pointer to trim the Bulldog lead to 53-46 with 8:41 left in the game, but the Blue Raiders would not get any closer. Cowan responded with a three of her own to kick off a 12-0 run and Cumberland held Lindsey Wilson scoreless for just over six minutes. Wisener snapped the scoreless streak with a shot from beyond the arc, but by then the Bulldogs had whittled the clock down to 2:12 and held a comfortable 65-49 lead.
The Blue Raider bench outscored the Bulldogs' 9-5, but Cumberland made 30 points from the paint and 15 points off 14 Lindsey Wilson turnovers.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action on Jan. 23 as the Blue Raiders host No. 22 Cumberlands (Ky.) for a 6 p.m. CT MSC contest.
