Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team fell to No. 22 University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) 76-65 at Biggers Sports Center on Thursday night.
Lindsey Wilson (14-6, 4-4 MSC) had four players score in double-digits, led by Jamie Cummings who finished the game with 23 points and nine rebounds. Tara Arnold added 12 points while Kayla Richardson finished with 11. Bre Elder scored 10 points going 4-for-8 from the free throw line.
The Blue Raiders struggled inside the paint as they allowed the Patriots to grab 15 offensive rebounds that led to 22 second chance points. Lindsey Wilson finished with eight offensive rebounds that led to four points.
Lindsey Wilson started the game with a 2-0 lead before Cumberlands went on a 7-0 run to take a five point lead, 7-2, with 17:03 left in the first half. Arnold cut the lead to one at 11-10 on a field goal with 15:02 on the clock.
The Blue Raiders would take the lead again at 18-17 on another Arnold basket as the Patriots went five minutes without a point. The lead was the last for the Blue Raiders as Cumberlands went on a 5-0 run to take a 22-18 lead after an Erica Lane three pointer with 3:21 left in the half.
Lindsey Wilson stayed close as they cut the lead to 22-21, however the Patriots would go on a 10-4 run to close the half with a 32-25 lead.
The Blue Raiders shot 37.5 (9-for-24) percent from the field in the first half while holding Cumberlands 32.4 (11-for-34).
Lindsey Wilson kept it close in the early parts of the second half as they cut the lead to three, 36-33 after a Cummings field goal with 18:07 left on the clock. Cummings scored the first 12 points of the second half for the Blue Raiders.
The Patriots would respond with a 6-0 run though to take a nine point lead, 42-33, with 16:28 on the clock.The Blue Raiders would make one more push, a 14-6 run to cut the lead to one point at 48-47 with 10:40 left on the clock. Cumberlands would push the lead to 14 points, 65-51 with less than four minutes left in the game and close the game out 76-65.
Brooke Forsythe led the Patriots with 20 points while Jackie Alexander added 19. The Patriots would finish the game shooting 38.7 (24-for-62) percent making five more field goals than the Blue Raiders. Lindsey Wilson finished the game shooting 19-for-49 and going 5-for-18 from beyond the arc.
The Blue Raiders host No. No. 6 Georgetown (Ky.) on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 2 p.m. CT at Biggers Sports Center.
