Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team used an 18-3 run to start the second half to defeat St. Catharine (Ky.) College 90-73 on Saturday afternoon at Biggers Sports Center.
Lindsey Wilson (12-4, 2-2 MSC) was down 41-38 to start the second half, but a fast start gave the Blue Raiders a 56-44 lead with 14:19 left in the game. Lindsey Wilson would never trail again as they took over the game and pulled away from the Patriots to snap a three game losing streak.
The Blue Raiders were led by five players, all in double-figures, including Kayla Richardson who finished the game with a team-high 19 points. Jamie Cummings added her fourth double-double of the season - 16 points and 10 rebounds - while Chanel Roberts scored 15 points in the win. Cassidy Martin and Candance Foster finished the game with 14 and 11 points respectively. Tara Arnold had a team-high 11 rebounds and added seven points.
Lindsey Wilson trailed 6-5 early in the game but a 7-0 run gave the Blue Raiders a 12-6 lead with 15:37 left in the half. Cummings made it a 10 point game as the Blue Raiders took a 27-17 lead with 8:29 on the clock.
St. Catharine battled back with a 17-7 run capped off by a Rianne Hofstraat field goal with 2:54 left in the half to tie it at 34. The Patriots would end the half on a 7-3 run to take a 41-38 lead into the locker room.
The Blue Raiders shot 37.5 percent from the field in the half while St. Catharine shot 47.1 percent.
Lindsey Wilson took over in the second half as they made three of their first four shots to take a 46-41 advantage after Martin sank a three-point shot with 18:06 on the clock. The Blue Raiders continued its hot shooting as they stretched the lead to 73-53 after a Cummings three-point shot with 8:12 left in the game. The Blue Raiders would close the game out with an 11-6 run to win the game 90-73.
Lindsey Wilson out-rebounded the Patriots 57-42 including a 37-28 advantage on the defensive side. The Blue Raiders finished the game shooting 41.3 percent from the field while the Patriots were held to 36.8 percent.
The Patriots were led by Machera Calhoun who finished the game with 20 points and six assists. Heather Sandlin added 12 points while Rianne Hofstraat scored 10 points in 35 minutes. Lexus Edwards led the team with 10 rebounds.
Lindsey Wilson travels to University of Pikeville (Ky.) on Thursday night, Jan. 9 starting at 5 p.m. CT.
