WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson men's and women's swimming teams both finished in second place at the Breast Cancer Awareness Dual Meet on Saturday hosted by Cumberlands (Ky.) at the Dinah Taylor Aquatic Center.
The Blue Raiders defeated Bethel (Tenn.), but fell to Cumberlands on both the men's and women's side in the 28-event competition.
On the men's side, Lindsey Wilson defeated Bethel 192-21, but fell to Cumberlands 156-87. On the women's side, Lindsey Wilson defeated Bethel 175-43, but lost to Cumberlands 140-106.
In the first event of the day, the women's 200-yard medley relay, the Blue Raider squad of Elena Nikolaeva, Courtney Fleeger, Laura Stephenson and Kelsey Marshall finished with a time of 1:56.80 to take second place.
Iker Larzabal fell less than a second behind Cumberlands' Thalys Caixeta in the men's 200-yard freestyle, placing third. Zachary Patzer and Josh Lykins finished behind Larzabal in fourth and fifth place in the event, respectively.
Nikolaeva turned in a second-place finish in the women's 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.48, just over two seconds behind the event winner.
In the women's 100-yard breaststroke, Marshall and Kelsey St. Charles finished in second and third with times of 1:17.16 and 1:18.38, respectively.
The Blue Raiders' first victory of the day came in the women's 200-yard butterfly event. Stephenson dominated the competition finishing with a time of 2:09.57, a full six seconds faster than the second-place finisher.
Fleeger recorded a national "B" standard in the women's 200-yard butterfly event with a time of 2:20.27.
Jose Prado de Lima took second in the men's 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:06.28 while Gage Setzer finished just behind him in third at 2:06.37.
Patzer added a second-place finish to his day in the 50-yard freestyle event with a time of 23.19.
Stephenson would get her second victory on the day in the women's 100-yard freestyle event, narrowly beating out Cumberlands' Morgan Plowman by .32 seconds with a time of 55.55.
Patzer would also take second in the men's 100-yard freestyle at 50.30, followed by Sam Tate (53.15), Ryan Leamy (54.56) and Dakota Hope (1:04.43).
On the women's side, Fleeger and Marshall both finished second in the 200-yard backstroke and 200-yard breaststroke, while Setzer and Shelby Stevenson took second in the men's 200-yard backstroke and 200-yard breaststroke.
Stephenson would later add her third win of the day in the women's 100-yard butterfly event with a time of 59.17.
