Box Score OAKLAND CITY, Ind. – The 19th-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team defeated Oakland City (Ind.) 75-51 Saturday afternoon at the Johnson Center Gymnasium.
Chanel Roberts and Michelle Montgomery each posted double-doubles for the team. Roberts had 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Montgomery tallied 12 points and 14 boards.
The Blue Raiders (5-0) and the Oaks (1-1) exchanged leads early to begin the game. Lindsey Wilson led 26-23 with 5:26 left in the first half. After a layup by Kayla Richardson, the Oaks' Chelsea Jellison scored a layup bringing the Blue Raider lead to three at 28-25.
Lindsey Wilson closed out the first half on a 5-4 run and led 35-31 at halftime.
The Blue Raiders went on a pivotal 15-5 run to open the second half and build a 50-36 lead with 13:18 remaining in the game. After two field goals by the Oaks, Roberts converted one out of two free throws to give the team a 51-40 lead.
Oakland City trailed by just nine points with 5:32 left in the game, but Roberts made a basket and Montgomery made two free throws extending the Lindsey Wilson lead to 13 at 63-50.
Lindsey Wilson led 69-50 with 1:55 left in the game before Alexus Chinn converted a three-point play after scoring a basket and converting the and-one free throw. With Lindsey Wilson leading 72-52, Ashley Johnson nailed a three-point basket with 55 seconds left to give the team its biggest lead of the game at 75-52.
Billie Hearn and Bre Elder each tallied 11 points, while Hearn also had eight rebounds and Elder posted seven boards.
Lindsey Wilson out-rebounded Oakland City 56-28 for the game.
The Blue Raiders shot 39.7 from the field, while the Oaks shot 33.8 percent. Lindsey Wilson scored 32 second-chance points and Oakland City had 15 second-chance points.
Lindsey Wilson next plays on the road in the Mid-South Conference opener against Shawnee State (Ohio) on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 5 p.m. CT.
