Career-high 29 points by Roberts helps Women's Basketball defeat IU-Southeast 81-74

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The No. 19-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team held on to defeat Indiana University-Southeast 81-74 on Tuesday night.

For the second-straight game, Chanel Roberts set a new career-high in points, finishing with 29 in the win. She recently scored 27 in the Blue Raiders' loss to Georgetown (Ky.) on Saturday, breaking her previous high of 26 points set last season.

Four of her biggest points on the night came in the final 27 seconds of the game. After leading by just three points, Roberts converted all four of her attempts from the free-throw line to help put the game out of reach.

Kayla Richardson also provided a crucial basket late in the game. With the lead at 74-72 with 37 seconds to play, Richardson sped past her defender to the hoop and made a layup as she was fouled. She converted the following free throw to give Lindsey Wilson (6-2) a five-point cushion before Roberts made her free throws.

Lindsey Wilson fell behind early to start the game as the Grenadiers (4-3) held the lead for the first 11 minutes of the game. The Blue Raiders took their first lead of the game at the 8:22 mark when Michelle Montgomery grabbed an offensive rebound and put back the shot for the 15-14 advantage.

Lindsey Wilson held the lead for the remaining of the first half. IU-Southeast was able to tie it but never managed to retake the lead. The Grenadiers' Megan Cureton hit a three at the buzzer to help cut the Blue Raiders' lead to three at 33-30 at the break.

The Blue Raiders built as much as an eight-point lead in the early parts of the second half, but the Grenadiers slowly chipped away until they were able to take a 48-47 lead over Lindsey Wilson with 11:47 left in the game.

Another three by Cureton tied the game at 61-61 with 7:41 to play, but the Blue Raiders answered with seven-straight points. IU-Southeast once again brought the game to within two points but Richardson's basket and Roberts' free throws helped ice the game in the final minute.

Lindsey Wilson shot 46.2 percent from the field while shooting 5-of-14 from beyond the arc with 16-of-20 free throw attempts. The Blue Raiders dominated the boards, outrebounding the Grenadiers 46-27.

IU-Southeast made 44.8 percent of their shots with nine three-point field goals. The Grenadiers also success at the free-throw stripe, making 13-of-16 attempts.

The 29 points by Roberts came on 8-of-15 shooting, making both three-point field-goal attempts and going 11-of-13 from the charity stripe. She also tied for a team-high with eight rebounds.

Bre Elder finished with 12 points while Montgomery and Ashley Johnson each had 10. Montgomery tied Roberts with eight rebounds.

The Grenadiers were led by Cureton who finished with 24 points in the loss. Heather Wheat and Jade Spaulding each finished with 13.

The Blue Raiders host No. 5 Campbellsville (Ky.) on Dec. 4 in their next game. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.
