No. 24 Women's Basketball holds off Brescia, 94-82

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 24 Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team withstood a late charge by visiting Brescia (Ky.) to prevail, 94-82, on Monday night at Biggers Sports Center.

Leading by as many as 22 points at 88-66 with under four minutes remaining in regulation, the Blue Raiders (10-2) went scoreless during a stretch of roughly three-and-a-half minutes while the Bearcats (4-7) scored 16 unanswered points.

Following a bruising drive to the basket that ended with a successful layup by Darrian McNary, visiting Brescia drew within six points at 88-82 with 26 seconds left.

Lindsey Wilson's scoreless spurt ended when Alexus Chinn converted a one-and-one free-throw shot at the 24-second mark to make it 89-82 in favor of the Blue Raiders. During the final 30 seconds of play, Lindsey Wilson as a team shot six-of-eight from the free-throw line to emerge victorious. Kayla Richardson went 5-of-6 from the stripe in the final 19 seconds.

The Blue Raiders ended the game with a season high 61 rebounds, including 26 on the offensive end. In all, Lindsey Wilson held a 61-36 edge over Brescia in terms of rebounds.

Richardson tied her career high with 21 points on eight-of-nine shooting from the free-throw line and 5-of-13 shooting from the floor, including three-of-six shots from three-point range. Richardson also had five rebounds and five assists.

Chinn set career highs with 13 points and 13 rebounds to go along with a team-best three steals. Chanel Roberts had a dozen points, eight rebounds and a pair of assists, while Courtney Sandlin and Cassidy Martin contributed 11 points apiece.

McNary scored a game-high 28 points for the Bearcats, converting 7-of-12 field-goal attempts and 14-of-17 free-throw shots. She also had five rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Julie Whitfill had 24 points, including six three-pointers, to go along with five rebounds and two steals before fouling out late in the second half. Toni McClellan finished with a team-leading 10 rebounds.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action next when it faces Webber International (Fla.). The game is set for 1 p.m. on Friday afternoon.
