No. 24 Women's Basketball falls at Webber International 78-73

BABSON PARK, Fla. -- No. 24-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's basketball struggled down the stretch en route to a 78-73 loss today to Webber International (Fla.) at the Sabbagh Athletic Center.

Webber International scored seven of the game's final nine points to improve to 6-1 on the season. Lindsey Wilson falls to 10-3 and sees its five-game winning streak come to a halt with the loss.

Tied at 71-71 with 2:34 left in the game, Lindsey Wilson suffered through a two-minute scoring drought -- managing only a Courtney Sandlin jumper to close the game.

Webber's Deslyn Applewhaite scored five of the Lady Warriors seven points down the stretch to preserve the upset.

The loss overshadows a tremendous comeback by the Blue Raiders.

Lindsey Wilson trailed 43-28 with 18:33 left in the game only to turn the tables and ultimately take a 58-51 lead midway through the second half. The Blue Raiders out-scored Webber 30-8 over an eight-minute span.

Webber International reclaimed the lead with 6:44 left and the two teams exchanged the lead five times inside the final seven minutes. The Lady Warriors took the advantage for good on Jurnee Pettigrew's free throw with 3:14 remaining.

Cassidy Martin led the Blue Raiders with 24 points off the bench. She connected on six of her 10 shots from the field -- including a 3-for-6 effort from deep -- and a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line. Chanel Roberts and Billie Hearn added 11 and 10 points respectively.

Applewhaite and LaQuandra Brazill led the Lady Warriors -- who shot 54.5 percent (30-of-55) from the field -- with 16 points each.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 1 p.m. CT on Saturday, Dec. 20, as the Blue Raiders travel to Southeastern (Fla.) in Lakeland, Florida.
