Women's Basketball falls to No. 8 Georgetown 79-67

GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team never led as they fell Thursday night to No. 8 Georgetown (Ky.) College 79-67.

Lindsey Wilson (18-9, 8-7 MSC) was led by Tara Arnold with 17 points on the night. Cassidy Martin added 12 points and Chanel Roberts chipped in with 11. Roberts led the team with six rebounds while Keosha Wisener recorded five assists.

Georgetown (18-6, 12-4 MSC) scored the first five points of the game before Lindsey Wilson got on the board with back-to-back baskets. The Tigers would go on a 15-6 run to take a 20-10 lead with 11:32 to play in the first. The Blue Raiders would cut the lead to five after a 7-2 run, but Georgetown would respond with another run of baskets to take their largest lead of the first half at 32-21. A field goal by Jamie Cummings with 18 seconds to play made it 34-25 at the break.

Georgetown outshot the Blue Raiders 50.0 percent to 34.5 percent in the first half. The Tigers also held the advantage in rebounds 22-14 and had 14 assists compared to just five by Lindsey Wilson.

The Blue Raiders awoke in the second half using a 20-11 run that tied the game at 45-45 with 13:19 to play. The Blue Raiders made 8-of-10 field goal attempts to open the half including six-straight points from Roberts. Trailing 43-37, Martin hit a three-point shot as she was fouled and made the ensuing free throw to cut the lead to 43-41.

The game would become tied again at 47-47, but Georgetown retook the lead and extended it to nine points at 62-53 with 6:37 to play. The Blue Raiders hung around as long as they could trimming the lead to five, but the rebounding effort by the Tigers proved to be too much. Georgetown would lead by as many as 15 points before ending the game 79-67.

The Tigers outshot Lindsey Wilson for the game 46.2 percent to 40.3 percent. Georgetown also held the rebounding advantage 41-34 and committed just one turnover in the second half after committing eight in the first. The Blue Raiders committed 10 turnovers which translated into 15 Georgetown points.

Six Tigers finished in double figures led by Kourtney Tyra with 17. Andrea Howard and Lizza Jones both finished with 15 points. Howard also pulled in eight rebounds and made all five of her free-throw attempts.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action when they travel to the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) on Saturday, Feb. 22.
