Women's Basketball Foils Comeback Attempt by Bluefield, Defeat the Rams 75-73

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Lindsey Wilson finished the game on an 11-3 run to defeat Bluefield (Va.) College 75-73 Thursday night at Biggers Sports Center.

Lindsey Wilson's Cassidy Martin scored six of the final 11 points including the go-ahead field goal that gave the Blue Raiders a 74-73 lead with 14 seconds left in the game. Martin followed her field goal with a steal on the ensuing possession, forcing Bluefield to foul and send her to the free throw line. With three seconds on the clock, she made the first free throw and missed the second, which bounced into the corner denying Bluefield a chance at a last-second shot.

The Blue Raiders started the game with a 10-2 run and extended it to 20-8 on a Keosha Wisener made free throw with 11:01 left in the first half.

Lindsey Wilson continued to make its shots as it took a 28-13 lead after a Bre Elder 3-point shot with five-minutes left in the half.

The Blue Raiders took a 37-25 lead into halftime as they shot 36.4 percent from the field. Chanel Roberts and Jamie Cummings finished the half with eight points apiece while Teqa McNeal and Maryah Mazyck both had eight points for the Rams.

The Blue Raiders would extend their lead to 14 points at the 17:16 mark, their largest of the second half. Lindsey Wilson led 51-38 with 13:31 left in the game before Bluefield went on an 8-3 run to cut the lead to 54-46 with 9:27 remaining. The Rams would rally using an 18-8 run to take their first lead of the game 64-62 with 4:00 minutes to play. Bluefield would extend that lead to 70-64 with 1:57 left in the game.

The Rams' Asia Wheeler made 1-of-2 free throws to make it 71-66 with 1:20 left. Martin nailed a 3-point shot to cut the lead to 71-69. Following a Bluefield miss, Bre Elder made a layup as she was fouled, making the free throw to give the Blue Raiders a 72-71 lead with 49 seconds left.

On the ensuing possession, the Rams retook the lead 73-72 on a Janee Simmons field goal. Then Martin would takeover in the final seconds with her basket, steal and free throws to seal the 75-73 win for Lindsey Wilson.

The Blue Raiders were led by Martin who finished with 23 points - 5-for-10 from beyond the arc. Roberts and Elder both finished with 14 points while three Blue Raiders grabbed six rebounds apiece.

The Rams shot 62.5 percent from the field in the second half as they finished the game at 49.2 percent. Bluefield was led by Wheeler who finished with 20 points while Simmons added 17 in the loss. Wheeler and Simmons both grabbed eight rebounds.
