Box Score CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The sixth-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's tennis team defeated NCAA Division I opponent Austin Peay State (Tenn.) 5-2 on Saturday.
Using NCAA scoring, Lindsey Wilson (3-1) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after winning the majority of doubles matchups.
Austin Peay State's (5-2) Dimitar Ristovski and Iago Seffrin swept Fabricio Morales and Francisco Charters 8-0 in the No. 1 doubles position. Ignacio Huertas and Raul Mendez would answer for Lindsey Wilson by defeating Aleksas Tverijonas and Evan Borowski at the No. 2 position 8-4.
The third and final doubles matchup proved to be a good one as Pablo Vilches and Edberg Espinoza faced off against James Mitchell and Manuel Montenegro. The match went back and forth and eventually to a tiebreaker where the Blue Raiders were able to win 8-7 (7-5) and secure the solo doubles point.
Austin Peay State, who ranks No. 71 in NCAA Division I, took the first singles point after Tverijonas defeated Morales at the No. 2 position 6-0, 6-2 to tie the match 1-1. Lindsey Wilson retook the lead when Charters defeated Mitchell 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 4 position. Mendez took down Seffrin at the No. 3 position 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 to extend the Lindsey Wilson lead to 3-1.
Huertas defeated Montenegro 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 5 position, bringing the score to 4-1, mathematically sealing the win for the Blue Raiders. Espinoza suffered a closely contested 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 loss at the No. 1 position and Vilches defeated Borowski 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) at the No. 6 singles, ending the match 5-2 in favor of the Blue Raiders.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action when they open Mid-South Conference play against Georgetown (Ky.) on March 7 at 2 p.m. CT.
