Laura Stephenson takes sixth in 200 Butterfly at 2014 NAIA Women's Swimming and Diving National Championships

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Laura Stephenson finished sixth in 200 yard butterfly on the final day of the 2014 NAIA Women's Swimming and Diving National Championships at Oklahoma City Community College.

Stephenson finished the finals of the 200 yard butterfly in a time of 2:07.53. She qualified in fifth with a time of 2:07.08 during the preliminaries in the morning session. Susan Herrington swam the 200 butterfly in the morning session and finished in 2:21.61, just outside the final 16.

The 400 yard freestyle team of Elena Nikolaeva, Kelsey Marshall, Paige Lewis and Stephenson qualified for the consolation finals with a 13th place finish in the morning session with a time of 3:46.63. Stephenson swam the first leg in record time, breaking the 100 yard freestyle school record in a time of 54.42. In the finals, the team finished in 12th place with time of 3:44.03.

In the morning session, Nikolaeva swam in the 200 yard backstroke preliminaries in a time of 2:12.59, one spot outside the consolation finals. Marshall took 19th in the 200 breaststroke preliminaries with a time of 2:35.13.

Lindsey Wilson finished the National Championships in 10th place with 106 points. Oklahoma Baptist defended its national title with 849 points to take first place while Savannah College of Art and Design (Ga.) took second place with 492 points. Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) rounded out the top-3 with 453 points.

The Blue Raiders will return to the pool in the fall for the start of the 2014-15 swimming season.
