Box Score MCKENZIE, Tenn. - No. 6 Lindsey Wilson men's tennis defeated No. 18 Bethel (Tenn.) University 6-3 on Saturday as the Blue Raiders won 2-of-3 doubles matches and the first three singles matches to secure its 11th win of the season.
Lindsey Wilson (11-2) won the No. 3 doubles match as Raul Mendez and Ignacio Huertas defeated Paolo Vecchi and Joshua Phelps 8-2 to take an early 1-0 lead. Mendez and Huertas move to 2-0 when playing the No. 3 doubles spot.
At No. 1 doubles, the 8th-ranked team of Fabricio Morales and Francisco Charters took down the 25th-ranked team of Peter Baca and Robin Demasse 8-6 to give the Blue Raiders a 2-0 lead. Morales and Charters are now 3-3 at the No. 1 doubles spot.
No. 2 doubles team of Pablo Vilches and Edberg Espinoza lost to Travis Hyman and Nikola Slavik 9-8 (7-4) as Bethel cut the lead to 2-1. Vilches and Espinoza are now 11-2 in doubles matches this season.
In singles competition, the Blue Raiders 43rd-ranked Morales defeated Vecchi 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles to give Lindsey Wilson a 3-1 lead. Morales is now 10-3 overall and 7-0 when playing the No. 3 singles spot.
At the No. 6 singles spot, Huertas beat Phelps 6-1, 6-1 to give the Blue Raiders a 4-1 lead heading into the final four singles matches. Huertas is now 11-2 on the season.
Vilches would clinch the Blue Raider win with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Hyman at No. 5 singles to give Lindsey Wilson a 5-1 lead and secure the teams 11th win of the season. Vilches remains undefeated at 13-0 this season.
No. 1 singles went to Bethel as No. 29-ranked Baca defeated Mendez 6-2, 7-6 (2) to make it 5-2 Lindsey Wilson. Mendez falls to 8-5 overall this season. The Wildcats would win its second singles match of the day at No. 4 singles as Slavik defeated Charters 6-2, 2-6 (10-7) to make it 5-3.
The 18th-ranked Espinoza would win the sixth point for Lindsey Wilson as he defeated Demasse 6-4, 7-5 to give the Blue Raiders a 6-3 win.
Lindsey Wilson is back on the court on Monday, April 14 as they travel to Bluefield (Va.) College for a 12 p.m. CT Mid-South Conference match.
