No. 6 Men's Tennis defeats Cumberlands 8-1 on Wednesday

COLUMBIA, Ky. – No. 6 Lindsey Wilson men's tennis defeated University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) 8-1 on Wednesday at the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.

Lindsey Wilson (9-1, 4-0 MSC) swept the doubles competitions as the No. 3 team of Pablo Vilches and Edberg Espinoza beat Eduardo Cabrera and Danilo Garcia 8-1 to secure the first point of the match for Lindsey Wilson. Vilches and Espinoza move to 9-1 overall this season in doubles and 4-0 in conference.

The No. 2 team of Fabricio Morales and Francisco Charters defeated Tyler Smith and Daryl MacLeish 8-3 to give the Blue Raiders a 2-0 lead. Charters and Morales move to 6-0 when playing second doubles this season.

In the final doubles match of the day, the No. 1 team of Ignacio Huertas and Raul Mendez beat Ariez Heshaam and Kenny Wilson 8-4 to complete the sweep of the doubles matches for Lindsey Wilson. Huertas and Mendez are 4-0 in conference and 7-3 overall this season.

In singles, No. 2 Espinoza defeated Cabrera 6-0, 6-0 to move to 7-3 on the season and 4-0 in conference play. The win gave the Blue Raiders a 4-0 lead with five matches to go.

Morales, playing at No. 3 singles defeated Garcia 6-4, 6-2 to give Lindsey Wilson a 5-0 lead and secure the Blue Raiders fourth straight conference win. Morales is undefeated at 4-0 in the No. 3 singles slot and is riding a four match win streak.

Lindsey Wilson's Charters defeated Smith 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles and improved to 9-1 on the season and 4-0 in conference play.

At No. 1 singles, the Blue Raiders Mendez lost 2-6, 3-6 to Heshaam as the Patriots got their lone point of the match to make it 6-1. For Mendez, it was his first conference loss and moves him to 2-1 in the No. 1 singles slot.

Huertas defeated Wilson at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-3 as Huertas moves to 9-1 on the season and has won seven straight matches.

In the final match of the day at No. 6 singles, Vilches beat MacLeish 6-3, 6-0 to give the Blue Raiders an 8-1 victory over Cumberlands. Vilches improves to 10-0 on the season and 4-0 in conference.
