GEORGETOWN, Ky. – No. 7 Lindsey Wilson men's tennis defeated St. Catharine (Ky.) College 5-0 in the Mid-South Conference Tennis Championship quarterfinals on Thursday at Brooking Park in Georgetown.
Lindsey Wilson (14-2) earns a spot in the MSC Tennis Championship semifinals after cruising past St. Catharine in the quarterfinals as they swept the doubles matches 3-0 and won the first two singles matches.
Raul Mendez and Ignacio Huertas earned the first point of the day as they beat Tyler Glover and Michael Berry 8-0 to give the Blue Raiders a 1-0 lead. Mendez and Huertas improve to 13-3 on the season.
In the second doubles match to finish, 9th-ranked team of Fabricio Morales and Francisco Charters took down Andre Jacomini and Ivan Kerkoc-Portillo 8-1. Edberg Espinoza and Pablo Vilches gave Lindsey Wilson the doubles sweep with an 8-1 win over Felipe Barrientos and Sergio Mendoza.
In singles matches, Morales defeated Kerkoc-Portillo 6-0, 6-0 in No. 2 singles to give Lindsey Wilson a 4-0 lead. In the No. 3 singles match, Mendez defeated Barrientos 6-1, 6-2 to seal the 5-0 victory over St. Catharine. No. 1 singles match between Espinoza and Jacomini started, but did not finish because the Blue Raiders took the match after the No. 3 singles match had finished.
Lindsey Wilson returns to the court on Friday, April 25 when they face the third-seed Pikeville (Ky.) in the MSC Tennis Championship Semifinals at Lackey Tennis Center in Georgetown at 1 p.m. CT.
