COLUMBIA, Ky. – The 18th-ranked Lindsey Wilson football team sprinted past Kentucky Wesleyan 62-10 Saturday night at Blue Raider Stadium during Homecoming weekend.
The Blue Raiders jumped out to a 14-3 lead in the first quarter. Running back Jalen Sublett scored from one-yard out to give the team the first touchdown of the game with 7:28 left in the first quarter. Cory Davenport later sprinted 17 yards down the sideline for the second touchdown.
Kentucky Wesleyan's Xavier Mitchell returned the ensuing kickoff 83 yards cutting the deficit to four at 14-10.
Lindsey Wilson's offense would then score 48 unanswered points the rest of the game as the Blue Raider defense shut out the Panthers for the final three quarters. Lindsey Wilson would punt just once during the game.
Wide receivers Cortez Barber, Tavis Elzy and Josh Williams all recorded touchdown grabs. Barber had 77 receiving yards and Elzy accumulated 72.
Lindsey Wilson set three new single-game program records, totaling 314 rushing yards, seven sacks and 38 first downs. The team had 604 total yards, which is six short of its single game record of 610 set on Sept. 8, 2012 against Pikeville (Ky.)
Running back Edwin Thomas led the way with 78 yards on 11 carries and a score, while Dakota Brown pitched in 71 yards on 10 carries. Sublett finished with 27 yards and a pair of touchdown runs.
Quarterback Branden Cresap threw for 264 yards, three touchdowns and one interception on 26 of 30 passing attempts.
The Blue Raiders (2-1) allowed 299 yards on the night including 260 through the air.
Quarterback Dalton Oliver had 212 yards and a touchdown on 14 of 26 passing. Running back Ahmad Mitchell ran for 35 yards on 12 carries.
Kyle Durbin led Lindsey Wilson with seven total tackles and a fumble recovery. Sam Mapa added three sacks, while Andrew Wahl had 1.5 sacks bringing his season total to six.
Yorell Branch, Phillip Francis and Jimmie Brannon each had seven total tackles for the Panthers.
Lindsey Wilson outgained Kentucky Wesleyan on the ground by a 314-39 mark. The Blue Raiders also won the turnover battle 3-1, thanks to interceptions by Avery Ford and Eric Shaw and Durbin's fumble recovery.
The Blue Raiders return to action next Saturday, September 20th when the team hits the road to play Pikeville. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. CT.
