MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The No. 17-ranked Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) football team's upset bid fell short today as No. 4-ranked Faulkner (Ala.) beat the Blue Raiders 28-21 in the NAIA Football Game of the Week at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium.

Faulkner quarterback Terrell Robinson found Rob Lockhart for a 24-yard touchdown with 5:00 left for the eventual game-winner as the Eagles improved to 5-0 on the season. Lockhart's highlight-reel catch -- a leap over two Blue Raider defenders in the front of the endzone -- capped a 7-play, 65-yard drive to complete the come-from-behind win.

Lindsey Wilson (3-2) would have two more drives over the final five minutes, but were turned away each time by the stingy Faulkner defense to secure the win.

Lindsey Wilson -- who entered the game averaging more than 49 point per game -- struggled early offensively. The Blue Raiders managed just 27 yards in two opening-quarter possessions -- one possession resulting in a turnover.

But the Blue Raider defense continued its solid play limiting the Eagles to just seven points in the opening period despite Faulkner's 11-minute time of possession advantage.

Faulkner increased its lead to 13-0 in the early stages of the second quarter only to have Lindsey Wilson respond with a program-record 99-yard drive.

Following a kickoff return mistake that forced the Blue Raiders to start on its own 1-yard line, Lindsey Wilson marched down the field covering the 99 yards in nine plays. Lindsey Wilson quarterback Branden Cresap hit Cortez Barber on a slant and Barber raced through traffic 34 yards for the score to cut the deficit to 13-7.

Faulkner had a chance to go back up by two scores in the waning seconds of the first half, but the Blue Raiders stopped the Eagles on first-and-goal from the 2-yard line three times inside the half's final minute. The Eagles' 33-yard field goal attempt -- following a Faulkner penalty -- sailed wide right keeping the score at 13-7 at the break.

Lindsey Wilson seized the momentum in the third quarter as the Blue Raiders took their first lead of the game with 6:04 left in the quarter.

Josh Haney barreled through the Faulkner defense and ran 57 yards to give the Blue Raiders a 14-13 lead. The run is the third longest in the program's history.

Feeding off the Haney run, the Lindsey Wilson defense secured its third takeaway of the day on the subsequent Faulkner drive. Dreshad Moore hauled in his first career interception giving the Blue Raider offense the ball at midfield.

Lindsey Wilson could not take advantage.

After converting a fourth-and-one to extend the drive, the Blue Raiders fumbled for the second time giving the momentum back to the Eagles.

Faulkner -- who scored on both Lindsey Wilson miscues -- needed seven plays to march 60 yards for the go-ahead score. The Eagles added a two-point conversion for a 21-14 lead.

Lindsey Wilson answered the Faulkner score on its next drive -- 12 plays covering 77 yards -- to tie the game at 21-21.

Cresap was 5-for-5 for 35 yards and Haney carried the ball four times for 19 yards during the drive. Cresap capped the possession with a two-yard quarterback keeper for his third rushing touchdown of the season.

Robinson and the Eagle offense used the next 3:38 to take the lead for good.

Faulkner out-gained the Blue Raiders 468-281 while running 27 mores offensive plays (87-60).

Robinson finished 29-for-39 for 256 yards and one touchdown. He also threw three interceptions. Robinson led the team with 118 rushing yards.

Cresap was 19-for-37 for 165 yards and one touchdown. Haney led the rushing attack with 93 yards.

The Blue Raider defense held the Eagles 28 points and 85 yards below their season average. Alex Abner finished with a pair of interceptions while Michael Brooks recorded a team-high eight tackles -- five tackles for a loss -- and two sacks.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 1:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, Oct. 4 as the Blue Raiders host No. 24-ranked Cumberlands (Ky.) at Blue Raider Stadium.
