COLUMBIA, Ky. – The 22nd-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team defeated Fisk (Tenn.) 86-26 Saturday afternoon at Biggers Sports Center.
The stifling Blue Raider defense forced 18 Lady Bulldog turnovers and did not allow a three-point basket as Fisk went 0-for-12 from beyond the arc.
Chanel Roberts scored a game-high 16 points and totaled eight rebounds, while Michelle Montgomery posted her second double-double of the season tying her career-high with 13 points and adding 10 boards. Ashley Johnson scored a career-high 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting.
The Blue Raiders began the game on a 13-0 run in the first three minutes. Montgomery and Roberts each tallied four points during the stretch.
Fisk then scored a basket to stop the run with 16:21 left in the first half.
With 11:38 left in the first half and Lindsey Wilson leading 23-7, Bre Elder and Cassidy Martin each made two free throws. Ranika Rone and Roberts then traded baskets, which was part of a 14-0 run.
The Blue Raiders led 37-10 with 7:45 remaining in the first half, before Roberts tallied a free throw and a basket. Lindsey Wilson closed out the first half on a 16-3 run to take a 53-13 halftime lead.
Lindsey Wilson shot 45.9 percent in the first half and was 17-of-18 from the charity stripe for 94.4 percent. Fisk totaled just a 12.5 percentage from the field and was 0-for-7 from beyond the arc.
With 16:23 remaining in the game and the Blue Raiders leading 54-17, Martin made a three-point basket followed by six straight points by Montgomery. Lindsey Wilson led 63-17 with 13:09 left in the game.
The Blue Raiders led 69-18 with 9:54 remaining before Johnson made a layup, followed by a basket by Billie Hearn. Johnson then made another basket to cap off a 12-1 run with Lindsey Wilson leading 75-18 and 8:06 left in the game.
After a basket by the Lady Bulldogs, Johnson hit a three-pointer and converted two free throws. Lindsey Wilson led by a season-high 60 points at 80-20 with 6:20 remaining in the game.
Kimtrice Cox led Fisk with 13 points and Telliya Patton pitched in six points and eight rebounds.
The Blue Raiders finished the game with a 41.4 field goal percentage, while the Lady Bulldogs shot just 13.8 percent from the floor.
Lindsey Wilson next plays Monday, Jan. 12 against Berea (Ky.) at Biggers Sports Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.
