Men's and Women's Swimming split with West Virginia Tech on Senior Day

COLUMBIA, Ky. – In the final home meet of the season, the Lindsey Wilson men's and women's swim teams came up with a split against West Virginia Tech on Saturday at the Holloway Center Natatorium.

The No. 9-ranked Blue Raider women's team won 133-99 over the No. 10-ranked Golden Bears' squad, while the No. 10-ranked Blue Raider men's team fell to the sixth-ranked West Virginia Tech men's team 190-70.

The day began with both the Lindsey Wilson men's and women's 200-yard medley relay teams earning national "A" standards.

Elena Nikolaeva, Courtney Fleeger, Laura Stephenson and Kelsey Marshall finished in 1:57.57 on the women's side, 12 seconds under the national standard time to win the event. On the men's side, Gage Setzer, Jonas Muller, Josh Lykins and Jose Prado de Lima finished in 1:41.83 for their national standard.

Fleeger just missed out on a national "B" standard by less than a second in the 200-yard freestyle event, but Iker Larzabal was able to achieve the "B" standard in the same event on the men's side with a time of 1:51.34.

Marshall added first-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke event after finishing in 1:19.64, with Kylie Gehefer right behind her at 1:21.84.

Muller recorded his second national standard of the day as a "B" cut in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:01.65, taking second place.

Susan Herrington added nine more points to the Blue Raider total after winning the 200-yard butterfly event with a time of 2:30.43.

Lykins picked up a "B" cut in the 200-yard butterfly after finishing with a time of 2:05.14, just .10 seconds under the qualifying standard time. He later added another "B" cut in the 100-yard butterfly after posting a 54.74, just .15 seconds under the qualifying time, finishing second in the event.

Natalie Miller and Nikolaeva added a pair of first-place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle and 200-yard backstroke events, respectively.

In the men's 200-yard backstroke, Setzer won the race with a time of 2:04.71, achieving a national "B" cut in the process.

Tori Caudill and Amber Lonaker added 13 more points to the women's score after finishing first and second in the 500-yard freestyle event.

Fleeger picked up a "B" standard in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 5:05.76.

In the final event of the day, the men's 400-yard freestyle relay team of Tolga Dogruyol, Zachary Patzer, Larzabal and Lykins achieved a national "A" standard after bettering the qualification time by four seconds.

The Blue Raiders men's team is now 6-5 on the year in dual meets while the women's squad improves to 8-4.

Lindsey Wilson heads to Campbellsville, Kentucky, on Jan. 24 for the final regular-season event of the year when the Blue Raiders face Campbellsville (Ky.) and Bethel (Tenn.) beginning at 10 a.m. CT.
