MONTGOMERY, W.Va. -- Lindsey Wilson swimming made its road debut today as the Blue Raiders traveled to West Virginia Tech for a dual match with the Golden Bears.
The Lindsey Wilson women won the dual by a score of 115-74, while the Blue Raider men fell to West Virginia Tech 145-59.
Laura Stephenson helped propel the women's squad to the win, winning all three races she competed in while achieving national A standards in each race. Stephenson was a part of the 200-yard medley relay team along with Elena Nikolaeva, Caitlin Freeny and Vanessa Durocher that won the race with a time of 1:56.62 to start the day.
Stephenson later grabbed two more A standards in the 200 freestyle and the 100 butterfly, winning both events. Bailey Seitz added two individual wins on the day in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events. Emily Wood won the 1,000 freestyle race and finished second in the 500 freestyle with a national B standard.
In the final race of the day, the foursome of Seitz, Wood, Courtney Fleeger and Dana Kaftan achieved a national A cut in the 400-yard freestyle relay event.
On the men's side, Clemens Patzold, Jonas Muller, Jose Prado de Lima and Taylor Thompson combined to finish second in the 200 medley relay with a national A cut.
Iker Larzabal accomplished a B cut in both the 100 and 200-yard freestyle events. Patzold would grab a B cut in the 200 individual medley with his second-place finish and later provide the lone event win for the Blue Raiders as he took first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.08 to earn an A cut.
Larzabal, Travis Durocher, Ryan Leamy and Zachary Patzer completed the day with a national cut in the 400 freestyle relay, finishing in second place.
The Blue Raiders return to the pool on Oct. 31 as they travel to Urbana (Ohio).
