Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. – Six Blue Raiders scored in double figures as Lindsey Wilson women's basketball sprinted past Brescia (Ky.) 104-65 on Monday night in Biggers Sports Center.
Teanna Curry posted a career-high 19 points to lead the Blue Raiders. Heidi Huffman (13) and Hannah DeBruin (12) also both went for career highs. Chanel Roberts finished with 14 points, Kayla Richardson with 15, and Malerie Martin matched a career-high with 10 points.
Lindsey Wilson (2-1) used a dominating first half to build their lead, outscoring Brescia (1-3) 26-15 in the first quarter and more than doubling up the visiting Bearcats 29-14 in the second quarter to take a 55-29 lead into the break. The Blue Raiders used a combination of full court pressure and smothering man-to-man defense to put the Bearcats in tough situations, forcing 21 turnovers by night's end.
The Blue Raiders shot 57.1 percent from the field in the opening quarter and converted 9-of-10 attempts at the free throw line.
Lindsey Wilson's shooting percentage dipped just a bit from the first quarter as they completed the half with a 54.5 percentage. The Blue Raiders continued to get the free throw line as they went 17-of-22 during the first two quarters. Lindsey Wilson did struggle from beyond the arc in the opening half as they made just 2-of-9 attempts.
A trio of Blue Raiders went into double figures by the half in Huffman, Curry and Roberts.
The Bearcats shot just 33.3 percent in the opening half and committed 16 turnovers compared to just five by the Blue Raiders. Lindsey Wilson racked up 12 steals in the first half alone, finishing the game with 16 total, a season high.
The Blue Raiders continued to apply the pressure on both ends of the court in the second half. Lindsey Wilson ended up outrebounding Brescia 41-29 while scoring 62 points in the paint as their height advantage continued to be too much for the Bearcats to handle.
Lindsey Wilson finished the night shooting 56.5 percent from the field compared to 35.8 percent by the Bearcats.
Brescia's Julie Whitfill led all scorers with 23 points. Kelsey Kirkpatrick added 12 and Haley Cook finished with 11.
Prior to the game, Lindsey Wilson women's basketball head coach John B. Wethington was presented with a basketball commemorating his 500th career coaching win, which he achieved on Saturday in the Blue Raiders' 84-63 win over Lane (Tenn.).
