Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. —Three Blue Raiders scored in double figures and Lindsey Wilson women's basketball defeated Missouri Baptist 88-65 on Friday at Biggers Sports Center.
The Blue Raiders (3-1) shot 44.3 percent for the game while holding the Spartans (1-2) to 33.8 percent from the field. Lindsey Wilson also recorded 29 rebounds compared to 20 for Missouri Baptist.
Teanna Curry led the way for Lindsey Wilson with a career-high 24 points on 9-of-13 shooting, while Chanel Roberts and Malerie Martin recorded double-doubles. Roberts shot 7-of-11 for 19 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and recorded three steals, while Martin scored 11 points, tallied 10 rebounds, two assists, and a block.
Lindsey Wilson and Missouri Baptist traded points early in the first quarter. The game was tied at seven when Martin sunk a two-pointer with 6:40 to go that started a 10-5 run to give the Blue Raiders a 17-12 lead at the end of the quarter.
The Blue Raiders continued their strong play by starting the quarter on a 12-2 run to jump ahead 29-14. Lindsey Wilson was making shots and playing strong defense, but they started to turn the ball over. The Spartans took advantage and fought back in the last five minutes of the quarter with an 11-6 run to cut the Blue Raider lead to 10 with the score at 35-25 going in to halftime.
Martin recorded nine of her points and seven of her rebounds in the first half as the Blue Raiders built their lead.
Lindsey Wilson reasserted itself in the third quarter and the lead ballooned to as large as 20 points with the score 55-35 with less than four minutes to play. Missouri Baptist fought back again with a 9-2 spurt that cut the Blue Raider lead to 13 points at 57-44 with 1:26 to go in the quarter, but Lindsey Wilson responded with a 6-2 surge of its own to end the third quarter with the score at 63-46.
The Spartans were not done fighting.
Missouri Baptist clawed back in the fourth quarter and cut the Blue Raider lead to single digits at 67-58 with 5:30 to go in the game. From that moment on, Lindsey Wilson went on a 21-7 run to finish the game with an 88-65 victory.
The Spartans were led by Aaryana Cook's 15 points, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
The Blue Raiders return to the court on Nov. 19 to face No. 12 Cumberland (Tenn.) at 6 p.m. CT in Biggers Sports Center.
