Women's Basketball downs Central State in double overtime, 96-92

COLUMBIA, Ky. — The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team won their fifth-straight game as they took down NCAA DII opponent Central State (Ohio) 96-92 in double overtime on Saturday morning at Biggers Sports Center.

The back-and-forth affair saw the Blue Raiders come back from a 13-point halftime deficit to capture the victory.

Chanel Roberts led the Blue Raiders (5-1) with 26 points as she went a perfect 10-for-10 from the floor. Teanna Curry chipped with 18 points, while Kayla Richardson had 16 points for Lindsey Wilson in the win over Central State (1-3).

In the first quarter, neither team took control of the game as it was tied three different times and had four lead changes in the first ten minutes of play. The largest lead came from the Marauders with 5:01 to play in the first as they led 16-12. Lindsey Wilson countered with a 7-0 run to take their largest lead of the quarter at 19-16 with 2:58 left.

Central State closed the quarter on a 10-4 run to lead 26-23 after the first quarter.

The Marauders continued to pull away in the second quarter as they went on 5-0 run to start the period to take a 31-23 lead with 8:20 left in the second quarter. The Blue Raiders tried to claw their way back into the game as they cut their deficit to six points, but Central State grabbed a 41-31 lead with 2:08 to play in the half. The Marauders were able to extend their led to 45-32 heading into the half.

To start the second half, Central State took a 55-43 lead with 4:39 left in the third quarter, but Lindsey Wilson went on a 13-0 run to take a 57-55 lead with 1:08 left in the frame. However, the Marauders battled back to take a 61-58 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Central State started to pull away once again as they took a 69-60 lead with 5:06 to play in regulation, but the Blue Raiders battled back once again. Lindsey Wilson cut the Marauders' lead to one point with 2:19 left in regulation, and both teams continued to battle back down the stretch in the fourth quarter. Roberts tied the game 74-74 with 24 seconds to play and Central State was unable to find a game-winning shot as the contest went to overtime.

In overtime, offense was at premium as both teams' tallied just six points in the quarter. After, Lindsey Wilson had a one point lead, Kourtni Perry had a pair free throws with four seconds left in the period, but Perry hit just one free throw to send the game into double overtime.

The Blue Raiders controlled the second overtime period as they scored the first two points and then extended their lead to as many as six points. Central State kept the game close, but they were unable to pull ahead as the Blue Raiders went on to win the game 96-92.

After dropping their first game of the season, Lindsey Wilson has won their last five games, and has won their last nine games at Biggers Sports Center dating back to last season.
