Women's Basketball falls to Marian in season opener, 98-62

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team dropped their season opener to Marian (Ind.), 92-68, on Wednesday night in Indianapolis, Ind.

Cameron McPherson led the Blue Raiders (0-1) with 14 points off the bench, while Teanna Curry and Courtney Sandlin chipped in with ten points apiece to round the Blue Raiders in double figures.

After Chanel Roberts opened the game making a pair free throws, the Knights (1-0) went on 16-3 run to open up an 11-point lead over Lindsey Wilson with 3:23 left to play in the first quarter. Marian took a 23-11 lead heading into the second quarter.

Michelle Montgomery made a lay up to start the second quarter, which made it 10-point game with 8:35 left in the second quarter. The Knights countered with a 13-2 run over the next 3:45 to take their largest lead of the first half, 36-15.

Lindsey Wilson tried to battle their way back into the game as they cut the Marian lead to 42-29 heading into the half.

The Blue Raiders shot 31.8 percent from the field in the first, compared to 50 percent from the Knights.

To start the second half, Lindsey Wilson continued to trim into the Knights lead as the score was 44-35 with 8:41 left in the third quarter. However, Marian regained their double-digit lead with an 11-0 run to pull out to a 20-point lead at the 4:53 mark in the third quarter.

The Knights led 62-41 heading into the final quarter of regulation.

Marian continued to stretch their lead to start the fourth quarter with a 21-8 run in the first 3:57 of the quarter. The largest lead of the game for the Knights came with 2:41 left to play in the game as they took a 94-55 lead.

The Blue Raiders dropped their season opener to Marian, 98-62. This is the first season opener Lindsey Wilson has lost since their 2007-08 season opener against Bethel (Tenn.), 74-62, at home.

After shooting 60 percent in the second half, Marian finished the game shooting 55.9 percent from the floor. This is the first time since Dec. 12, 2014 against Webber International (Fla.) that the Blue Raiders have allowed their opponent to shoot over 50 percent from the floor.

Next up for Lindsey Wilson, is their home opener against NCAA DII opponent – Lane College (Tenn.) – on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT from Bigger Sports Center.
