Box Score

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team sprinted past Saint Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.) 106-80 in a run-and-shoot affair on Tuesday afternoon at Biggers Sports Center.

The victory is the sixth straight for the Blue Raiders (12-2) while the Pomeroys (5-7) drop their fourth-consecutive contest.

Lindsey Wilson, who is averaging 47 percent from the field on the season, continued their hot shooting with a 48.4 percent performance in the victory. Even more impressive, the Blue Raiders made nearly half of their shots without running a single offensive play.

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods employed a full court pressure defense after made baskets, which the Blue Raiders were able to beat with systematic passes, often resulting in two-on-one scenarios for Lindsey Wilson.

In those two-on-one scenarios, the Blue Raiders were unselfish with the ball and passed to the open teammate, often resulting with an easy layup for Lindsey Wilson.

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods used an army of substitutes, often subbing out all five players at once in an attempt to keep fresh legs on the floor every few minutes. The Pomeroys would sprint up the floor on offense and using multiple penetration and kick-out plays in an attempt to free up an open shooter from beyond the arc.

When Lindsey Wilson did break the press and got the ball into the front court, the Pomeroys pressured the ball every single possession, resulting in the Blue Raiders passing the ball to find the open shooter. The quick and efficient passes often beat the defenders to the spot and Lindsey Wilson took advantage of the over commitment to pressuring the ball.

In the first half alone, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods fired off 45 shots including 20 from three-point range. The Pomeroys managed just 31.1 percent from the floor and 25 percent from beyond the arc in the half.

Lindsey Wilson shot 47.7 percent from the floor in the opening half including making 5-of-11 three-point shot attempts for 45.5 percent.

The game was close at the start as it was tied at 12-12, until the Blue Raiders solved the full court pressure and began inching away from their counterparts.

By halftime, Lindsey Wilson had built a 52-35 lead over Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.

While no Blue Raider reached double digits in the opening half, six players did record at least six points with the team recording 12 assists alone in the first half.

The second half saw the same trends as the first with the Pomeroys applying full court pressure as often as possible, but with the Blue Raiders breaking the defense and pushing the ball down the court for high-percentage baskets from inside the paint.

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods put together a small run to start the third quarter, trimming the Lindsey Wilson lead down to 15 points at 56-41, but the Pomeroys were unable to get any closer as the Blue Raiders continued to pull away before eventually ending the game with the 106-08 victory.

Lindsey Wilson finished the game making 48.4 percent (45-of-93) while the Pomeroys shot 34.8 percent (32-of-92). The Blue Raiders made 9-of-26 shots from beyond the arc while the Pomeroys unleashed 36 shots from three, making just 11.
