Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team wrapped up their first semester Mid-South Conference schedule on Saturday afternoon as they defeated St. Catharine (Ky.), 85-76.
Courtney Sandlin led the Blue Raiders (7-2, 2-1 MSC) with a career-high 20 points off the bench, while Teanna Curry led all starters with 19 points. Chanel Roberts chipped in with 17 points against the Patriots (3-9, 0-4 MSC).
Through the first five minutes of the first quarter, neither team could take control of the game in the early going as the largest lead was four by Lindsey Wilson. Both teams traded baskets throughout the first quarter as the game was tied on six different occasions. The Patriots hit a basket with five seconds to go in the quarter to take the lead the first ten minutes of play.
The Blue Raiders started to find a rhythm on defense as they did not allow St. Catharine to hit a shot from the floor until the 5:04 mark in the second quarter. However, Lindsey Wilson could not take advantage as their largest lead was 30-26 with 5:22 left in the first half. After the game was tied for the 10th time with 4:48 to play in the half, the lead changed hands two more times as the Blue Raiders held a slim 40-38 lead at the half.
Lindsey Wilson shot 45.5 percent from the floor in the first half, but was just 2-for-8 from beyond the arc, compared the Patriots shooting 41.9 percent from the field and 2-for-5 on shots from three.
In the third quarter, Lindsey Wilson went on 6-2 run in the first 1:01 of the period to take a 46-40 lead. St. Catharine continued to battle back as they tied the game at 48-48 and then again at 53-53. However when the Blue Raiders took at 55-53 lead with 3:57 left in quarter, Lindsey Wilson never looked back.
With 1:58 left in the third quarter, the Blue Raiders led 60-58 and they closed the half on a 6-0 run to take a 66-58 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The Patriots scored the first three point of the fourth quarter as they cut their deficit to three points, but that is as close as they came the remainder of the game. Lindsey Wilson took their largest lead of the game with 3:39 left in the game as they took a 74-64 lead. St. Catharine inched their way back within five points, but the Blue Raider held off a late Patriot rally to win the game 85-76.
Lindsey Wilson finished the game shooting 46.2 percent from the floor, while St. Catharine shot 47.3 percent from the field and 46.7 percent from beyond the arc. The Blue Raiders also held a 39-26 rebounding edge in the game.
