Women's Golf finishes fifth at Mid-South Conference Championships

BARDSTOWN, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson women's golf team concluded their 2015 spring season with a fifth-place finish on Tuesday at the Mid-South Conference Championships held at the Bardstown Country Club at Maywood.

The Blue Raiders shot a 340 during the final round to bring their three-day tournament total to 1,003 (334-329-340). Lindsey Wilson falls just three strokes behind fourth-place Pikeville who shot a 1,000 (332-334-334) for the tournament.

Lindsey Wilson sat ahead of the Bears after the second round, but the 340 on the final round provided the six-stroke swing to allow Pikeville to jump ahead of the Blue Raiders.

Shayna Cockrill (245; 80-79-86) provided the top Blue Raider finish at the tournament, finishing with a 14-over 86 on the final round to tie for 11th place. She played well on the front nine carding a 3-over, but ran into problems on the back nine finishing with an 11-over including a pair of double and triple bogeys.

Courtney Swindle (249; 85-79-85) finished tied for 16th place with 13-over par 85 on the third day of the tournament. She began the round strong with four-straight pars, but suffered a setback with back-to-back bogeys on holes two and three. Swindle then went par-birdie-par-par to stay at 4-over for the day, but later dropped six strokes with three-straight double bogeys on 11,12 and 13 to finish the day at 13-over.

Cockrill finished with 27 total pars, the 10th most in the field of 39 competitors. Right behind her with 26 pars finished Swindle.

Cristina Jimenez (255; 87-85-83) shot her best round of the tournament on Tuesday with an 11-over par 83 to finish 21st. She performed well on the front nine with a 3-over including a birdie on the par-5 third, but an 8-over performance on the back nine dropped her to 11-over.

Amy Brown (256; 83-86-87) finished tied for 22nd after her final round 15-over par 87.

Not far behind Brown finished Megan Kriz (260; 86-88-86) with a 14-over par 86 on the final day in 25th place. She moved up three spots on the individual leaderboard to finish at 44-over par for the tournament.

In between Brown and Kriz finished Kayla Cordeiro (257; 88-90-79), who competed at the tournament as an individual. Cordeiro saved her best round for last, firing a 7-over par 79 on Tuesday, matching the lowest score by a Blue Raider at the tournament.

She dominated on the front nine recording three birdies to finish at 1-under, but two double bogeys and a triple bogey on the back nine dropped her all the way down to 7-over for the round.

Cordeiro led the team with four birdies at the tournament, including three in her final round.

Cumberlands (Ky.) took home the team title with a three-day total 922 (302-306-314) and the automatic bid that goes with it to the NAIA National Championship Tournament in May.

The Patriots finished 23 strokes ahead of second place Campbellsville (Ky.)

Cumberlands' Rachel Pingleton led wire-to-wire to claim the individual tournament title with a three-round 11-over par 227 (70-79-78).

Following the tournament, conference officials handed out its all-conference honors. The two all-conference teams are based on the three Mid-South sponsored tournaments throughout the year with each individual using her top five scores in the seven rounds.

Jimenez was named to the Second-Team All Mid-South Conference.

Cumberlands' Bri-ann Tokariwski earned Player of the Year honors while teammate Kaitlyn Riley earned Freshman of the Year honors.

This concludes the 2014-15 season for the Lindsey Wilson women's golf team.
