Men's Tennis runs winning streak to 13, beats Marian 8-1

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Lindsey Wilson men's tennis continued its winning ways today with an 8-1 win over visiting Marian (Ind.) at Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.

The No. 5-ranked Blue Raiders (15-2) claimed all three doubles points and five of six singles matches to run their winning streak to a baker's dozen.

Edberg Espinoza and Francisco Charters -- ranked fourth in NAIA doubles -- secured the first Lindsey Wilson point with an 8-2 win over Marty Pochop and Danny Albert in the top doubles match.

Ignacio Huertas and Pablo Vilches made it 2-0 following an 8-1 win over Zach Hilton and Ryan Heuer in the third-seeded match.

Denis Porcic and Raul Mendez made it a clean sweep in doubles with an 8-4 win over Jason Denton and Taylor Kinney in the second-seeded match. With the win, Porcic and Mendez run their season record to 14-1, including 12 straight wins.

Espinoza and Porcic capped the win for the Blue Raiders with straight-set wins in the top two singles matches.

Espinoza -- ranked fourth in the NAIA in singles -- won the only match of nationally ranked foes. He defeated 49th ranked Denton 6-4, 6-3 in the top-ranked singles match. Espinoza won his 10th straight and 15th in 17 matches this season.

Porcic -- the Mid-South Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week -- bested Jack Hiatt 6-1, 6-3 for the fifth and decisive point in the second-seeded match.

Mendez, Huertas and Vilches also claimed straight-sets wins en route to the 8-1 win.

Lindsey Wilson is scheduled to return to action at Noon CT on Wednesday, April 8, as the Blue Raiders host Bethel (Tenn.) in the 2015 home finale at Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.
