Box Score MOBILE, Ala. – The fifth-seeded Lindsey Wilson men's tennis team swept 12th-seeded Northwood (Fla.) 5-0 on Wednesday afternoon during the NAIA Men's Tennis National Championship Second Round at the Mobile Tennis Center.
With the victory, the Blue Raiders (20-2) secured their 18th-straight win and move on to the quarterfinals to face fourth-seeded Auburn-Montgomery (Ala.) on Thursday at 9 a.m. CT. The Seahawks conclude their season with a 12-4 record.
Ignacio Huertas and Pablo Vilches opened the match with an 8-2 win at the No. 3 doubles match against Ignacio Osse and Julian Sarrion. On the heels of that victory, Raul Mendez and Denis Porcic prevailed by an identical 8-2 score in the second-seeded doubles match over David Uquillas and David Uquillas.
To close out the doubles play, Francisco Charters and Edberg Espinoza prevailed, 8-5, over the NAIA's top-ranked doubles team of Alvaro Iturriaga and Rafael Lenz in the No. 1 match.
During singles competition, Charters bested Martins by a 6-1, 6-1 margin in the No. 4 match. Lindsey Wilson clinched its victory with Porcic's 6-1, 6-4 win against Uquillas in No. 2 doubles.
The rest of the matches were halted after the Blue Raiders reached the necessary five points to advance.
Lindsey Wilson clinches its fifth national quarterfinal appearance, including reaching the final eight for the third straight season. The Blue Raiders will go for the program's first-ever national semifinal on Thursday against AUM.
