Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team took care of business on Tuesday night as the Blue Raiders defeated visiting Fisk (Tenn.) 83-57 at Biggers Sports Center.
Playing at home for the first time in five contests, the No. 22-ranked Blue Raiders (16-4) pulled away in the second half to improve to 12-1 on the year in games played in Columbia. Fisk drops to 5-12 with the loss.
Chanel Roberts posted 20 points followed by Cameron McPherson's 11, but the most significant number on the night came from Billie Hearn as she blocked six shots, setting a new program record. The six blocks surpasses the five that former Blue Raider Bethany Spillman accomplished back in 2011. Hearn came close to matching Spillman's record just last week as she recorded four in Lindsey Wilson's loss to Shawnee State (Ohio), but the junior from Dry Ridge, Ky., finally made her mark in program history on Tuesday night with her six turned away shots. She added six points and five rebounds in the game.
After a convincing opening quarter where the Blue Raiders outscored the Bulldogs 15-5, a competitive second quarter kept the lead for Lindsey Wilson to just 10 points at the break as both squads posted 21 points in the second quarter. The Blue Raider offense put together a strong third quarter, outscoring their counterparts 22-11 to more than double their lead, and a final 25-20 advantage in the fourth quarter helped Lindsey Wilson pull away for the 83-57 win.
Lindsey Wilson completed the night with a 49.2 shooting percentage from the field, including a 43.8 mark (7-for-16) from beyond the arc. The Blue Raiders excelled at the free throw line, recording an 82.4 percentage (14-for-17), while finishing with 10 blocks, six steals and 15 assists. The Blue Raiders are now 5-0 on the year when they record 15 or more assists.
Heidi Huffman added nine points, all from beyond the arc, while Malerie Martin, Teanna Curry and Courtney Sandlin each had eight. Lindsey Wilson finished with a 49-35 rebounding advantage. Martin added three blocks in the win. All 11 Blue Raiders on the team scored on the night.
Fisk managed just a 31.9 percentage from the floor and a 30.8 mark from three-point range. Four Bulldogs did reach double figures led by Lashae Brown's 17. Emani Moon, Stevonna Scott and Sommer Griffin each finished with 12.
The Blue Raiders are back in action on Sunday as they host Washington Adventist (Md.) at 2 p.m. CT.
