Box Score OWENSBORO, Ky. – The No. 5-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team opened its season on Saturday with an 81-55 victory over Brescia (Ky.) at the Kentucky Mavericks Training Facility.
Chanel Roberts led all scorers with 20 points, making seven of her eight shots for the Blue Raiders (1-0). Kayla Styles matched her teammate in efficiency, scoring 12 points and shooting six of eight from the field. Styles also pulled down a game-high eight rebounds.
Lindsey Wilson ran out to a 43-23 halftime lead behind a strong showing from Roberts, who had 12 first-half points on three-of-four shooting. Lindsey Wilson shot 48.5 percent (16-of-33) and limited the Bearcats (0-1) to just five made field goals on 20 attempts in the first 20 minutes.
Brescia held their own in the third quarter, matching the Blue Raiders, 17-17. The Bearcats faded in the final 10 minutes as Lindsey Wilson outscored them 21-15 in the fourth quarter.
Shelbi Samsil led all Brescia players with 16 points. The Bearcats shot only 34 percent (17-of-50) from the field, including 5-19 from three-point range.
As a team, the Blue Raiders shot 50.8 percent (32-of-63) from the floor and out-rebounded Brescia 43-17, including a 16-4 edge in offensive boards.
The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team returns to action on Nov. 2 when they face Midway (Ky.) at 6 p.m. CT at Biggers Sports Center.
