Women's Basketball remains unbeaten with 86-47 win over Warner

LAKE WALES, Fla. – The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team kept their perfect record intact on Saturday as the Blue Raiders defeated Warner 86-47 at the Turner Athletic Center.

The fifth-ranked Blue Raiders (12-0) never trailed in the contest as the Royals (5-9) dropped their fifth-straight game.

Michelle Montgomery paced Lindsey Wilson as she matched a season-high with 14 points, including a career-high four made three pointers, just missing out on a double-double nine rebounds. Kayla Styles and Jynea Harris also both went into double figures with 11 points each, Harris setting a new career high. The trio combined to go 13-for-16 from the field, each missing just one shot attempt.

As a team, Lindsey Wilson outshot the host Royals 51.5 percent to 32.1 percent. The Blue Raiders made 10 shots from beyond the arc, compared to three by Warner, while LWC racked up 48 points from bench players.

Lindsey Wilson pounced early and never looked back as the Blue Raiders opened the game on a 14-0 run en route to a 17-5 advantage following the first quarter of play. The Royals turned the ball over on their first four possessions of the game, and went 0-for-8 from the floor before finally denting the scoreboard with a jumper at the 1:08 mark of the first quarter. Warner committed 10 turnovers alone in the first quarter.

The Blue Raider dominance continued in the second quarter. A Warner basket brought the game within 13 points at 20-7, but that's as close as things would get the remainder of the game.

Leading 24-8, Lindsey Wilson put together another 14-0 run to take a 38-8 lead with 3:11 to play in the half. The Blue Raiders stretched that lead to 31 points three times during the final minutes of the quarter before taking a 45-16 lead into halftime.

Lindsey Wilson tripled the Royals in made baskets in the first half – 18-for-38 for LWC, 6-for-25 for Warner – while holding a 5-1 advantage in made three pointers.

The Blue Raiders dominated the rebounding battle 26-11, turning 12 offensive rebounds into 13 second-chance points. Lindsey Wilson also capitalized by turning 16 Royal turnovers into 21 points.

The Blue Raiders continued to build their lead, pushing the gap to as large as 35 points twice in the third quarter as they outscored the Royals 19-12 in the period.

Lindsey Wilson edged Warner out 22-17 over the final 10 minutes of play to cap off the 86-47 victory.

Charisa Broadway, Kashari James and I'munique Green led Warner with 13, 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action on Dec. 30 when the Blue Raiders host Indiana-Southeast at 2 p.m. CT for the final game of the 2016 calendar year.
