No. 3 Men's Tennis picks up road win over Morehead State, 5-2, on Tuesday

MOREHEAD, Ky. – The third-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's tennis team snapped their two-match losing streak as they defeated NCAA DI opponent, Morehead State (Ky.), on Tuesday, 5-2.

The Blue Raiders (2-2) got an early edge over the Eagles (0-5) as they won two of the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point.

Morehead State took the early advantage in doubles play as Ognjen Sunjevaric and Nick Mercer won at No. 2 doubles over Javier Raya and Collin Sparks, 6-2. However, Raul Mendez and Tomas Depiaggio won 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, while Alonso Tellez and Ignacio Huertas secured the doubles point for the Blue Raiders with a 6-2 victory at doubles No. 3.

With Lindsey Wilson leading 1-0 at the start of singles play, the Eagles tied the match right away as Garrett Mandrell defeated Sparks, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 6 singles. The Blue Raiders regained the momentum in the match as Tellez won in straight sets against Enrique Samudio, 6-2, 6-1, as Lindsey Wilson took a 2-1 lead.

Depiaggio extended the lead for the Blue Raiders with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles. Raya clinched the match for Lindsey Wilson with a straight set victory at singles No. 3. Ritchie Kruunenberg stopped the Blue Raider run as he defeated Mendez at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 7-6 (7-0).

In the final remaining match, Huertas edged out Gabriel Ruiz in three sets, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3, as Lindsey Wilson came away with a 5-2 victory.

The Blue Raiders return to action next Monday as they face No. 18 Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) in Lexington, Ky., at 8 a.m. CT.
