Box Score MADISONVILLE, Tenn. -- The 21st-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's basketball grabbed an 80-42 win over Hiwassee (Tenn.) on Monday night to close out a set of back-to-back road games.
Courtney Sandlin led the Blue Raiders (19-4) with 15 points, while Ashley Johnson was the only other starter for Lindsey Wilson to reach double figures with 12 points. Off the bench, Heidi Huffman had 12 points and Cameron McPherson had 10 points against the Tigers (5-16). The Blue Raiders recorded 19 assists in the game, which their third-most in a game this season.
Lindsey Wilson started the game on a 16-2 run over the first 4:22 of the opening frame, but Hiwassee countered scoring the next five points to make it a 16-7 with 4:54 left to play in the first quarter. After Lindsey Wilson held an 18-9 lead with 2:14 left in the quarter, the Blue Raiders scored the final eight points of the quarter to take a 26-9 lead after the first quarter.
After the Tigers scored the first basket of the second quarter, Lindsey Wilson held Hiwassee to just two points the remainder of the quarter. The Blue Raiders had a 17-0 run through the middle of the second quarter and a Hiwassee basket at the 3:52 mark put an end to the Lindsey Wilson run. To close out the first half, the Blue Raiders scored the final 13 points to take a 56-13 lead into the half.
In the first half, Lindsey Wilson shot 69.7 percent from the floor and 66.7 percent from behind the arc. Hiwassee was held to 16.7 percent shooting, while making just 1-of-10 from behind the three-point line.
The Tigers found their shooting touch in the third quarter as they shot 53.3 percent for the quarter, while holding Lindsey Wilson to just 35.3 percent from the floor.
Both teams continued to battle back-and-forth to start the second half as neither team could sustain a long run. The Blue Raiders took their largest lead of the game with 5:18 left in the third quarter after Sandlin hit a shot inside the paint to make it a 67-19 game in favor of Lindsey Wilson.
Hiwassee outscored the Blue Raiders 21-13 in the third quarter as they cut their deficit to 69-34 heading into the fourth quarter.
Both offenses cooled down in the fourth quarter as Lindsey Wilson went 4-for-19 from the floor, compared to 3-for-15 from Hiwassee. Despite just shooting 27.8 percent from the floor in the second half, the Blue Raiders came away with an 80-42 victory.
Lindsey Wilson shot 47.8 percent from the field for the game, while shooting 36 percent from behind the arc, compared to Hiwassee's 26.7 and 13.3 percent, respectively.
