Cockrill leads Women's Golf to fifth-place finish at Skyhawk Invitational

PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The Lindsey Wilson women's golf team moved up two spots on the final day of competition to capture fifth place at the Skyhawk Invitational on Tuesday hosted by Point (Ga.).

The Blue Raiders shaved 13 strokes off of their opening round score to finish at 659 (336-323) for the tournament and secure their second top-five finish of the spring season.

Shayna Cockrill led the way for Lindsey Wilson as she finished tied for fifth place on the individual leaderboard at the par-72, 5,808-yard Callaway Gardens Lake View Course. After an opening round 80, Cockrill shot a 4-over par 76 during the final round to move up six spots in the final standings.

Courtney Vincent, who was one of five Blue Raiders to better their scores from the opening round, shot a 10-over par 82 in the final round to move up three spots into a tie for 18th place in the field of 73. She trimmed one stroke off of her 11-over 83 on the first day.

Kenna Richardson made the biggest movement up the leaderboard as she jumped up 12 spots on the final day after cutting five strokes off of her day one total. She bettered her 15-over 87 on the first day to a 10-over 82 on the second day to finish tied for 26th place. She tied with teammate Cristina Jimenez who moved up seven spots after trimming her 86 on the first day down to an 83 in the final round.

Amy Brown was the final Blue Raider to see improvement as she cut five strokes off of her opening round to finish with a 183 (94-89) in a tie for 51st place.

Kayla Cordeiro, who competed as an individual at the event, finished with a 178 (88-90) in a tie for 46th place.

Milligan (Tenn.) captured the team victory, beating out second-place Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) by 36 strokes. Trevecca Nazarene's Alexa Rippy led wire-to-wire to capture top medalist honors, edging out second place by three strokes.

The Blue Raiders return to the links for the TPC Deere Run Invitational set to open on March 28.
