Men's Tennis sweeps No. 23 Asbury to remain unbeaten at home

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The seventh-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's tennis team completed a 9-0 sweep over visiting No. 23-ranked Asbury (Ky.) on Wednesday afternoon at the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.

It marks the second time in as many days that the Blue Raiders (6-2) have beaten a ranked opponent. On Tuesday, Lindsey Wilson took down No. 13-ranked Reinhardt (Ga.) by a 7-2 margin.

The victory improves the Blue Raiders' home record to a perfect 4-0, with three wins coming against ranked opponents.

Lindsey Wilson started things off with a clean sweep of the three doubles matches to build a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.

Raul Mendez and Denis Porcic teamed up at the No. 1 doubles flight to defeat Joshua Abraham and Ty Abraham by an 8-4 margin for the first point of the day. Alonso Tellez and Ignacio Huertas followed shortly after with an 8-3 win at the third-seeded doubles flight over Shane Mustor and Deuce Gibson to make it 2-0. After trailing 5-4, the duo of Javier Raya and Tomas Depiaggio rallied off four-straight points to win the No. 2 doubles match 8-5 over Aquille Trotman and Julian Tellez to complete the doubles sweep.

In singles play, Alonso Tellez was the first to secure a point with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Julian Tellez at the No. 3 singles match. Porcic followed soon after with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Joshua Abraham at the top singles match to secure the fifth point for Lindsey Wilson, mathematically sealing the victory.

Mendez then took down Ty Abraham with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at the No. 2 singles match, followed by a 6-1, 6-1 win by Huertas at the No. 4 singles match. Depiaggio won 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 5 position and Raya closed out the perfect sweep with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at the No. 6 singles match to make it a 9-0 victory for the Blue Raiders.

With the win, the Blue Raiders extend their current win streak to five-straight matches.

Lindsey Wilson returns to the courts on Friday as they open Mid-South Conference play against No. 22-ranked Cumberland (Tenn.).
