BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson women's golf team concluded the 2016 Mid-South Conference Championships on Wednesday afternoon as they fired a 39-over par 327, to finish of the tournament at 982.
The Blue Raiders finished in fourth place overall and they were one-shot back of Cumberland (Tenn.), who finished third with a three-day score of 981.
Cumberlands (Ky.) won the 2016 MSC Championship with a score 910, which was 28 strokes ahead of second-place Campbellsville (Ky.) who finished the tournament with a 938.
Constanze Sieker of Cumberlands won the individual title by two strokes with a 6-over par 222. Anna-Marie Hyatt – who had the low round of the day with a 1-over par 73 – came within one stroke of the lead, but Sieker chipped in for birdie on her final hole to secure the tournament title. Sieker led the tournament wire-to-wire.
Shayna Cockrill led the Blue Raiders on Wednesday with a 4-over par 76 to finish the tournament tied for 18th with a 29-over par 245. After starting her round with a bogey, she was able to rattle off six-straight pars, followed by a birdie to remain even through her first eight holes. However, Cockrill double-bogeyed No. 18 before making the turn to the front nine to fall to 2-over par after her first nine holes.
Cristina Jimenez finished the final round of the tournament with a 6-over par 80 and slipped two spots in the final standings to 17th with a 28-over par 244. Jimenez shot 5-over par on the back nine, but she was able to par seven of her final nine holes to finish 3-over par on her final nine holes.
Jimenez was tied for second in par three scoring over the 54-hole tournament as she was one of four golfers to finish 1-over par on such holes.
Kenna Richardson fired a final round score of 12-over par 84 and she remained in 22nd overall with a 36-over par 252. Richardson struggled to start the day as she bogeyed three of her first four holes. She started her final nine holes of the tournament with back-to-back pars, but three double-bogeys doomed Richardson on the front nine.
Courtney Vincent and Amy Brown posted a pair of 15-over par 87s on Wednesday to round out the five-woman roster for Lindsey Wilson. She was tied for fourth in the field with five birdies throughout the three days. Vincent struggled throughout her round as she was only able to post six pars throughout her round. Brown pared four of her final six holes on the back nine including her final three holes; however, a triple-bogey on No. 1 halted her momentum.
Vincent was the highest finisher for the Blue Raiders in the tournament as she finished in 13th overall despite dropping six spots after the final round. Vincent ended the three-day event with a 26-over par 242.
Brown finished tied for 25th overall with a 41-over par 257.
Kayla Cordeiro competed as an individual for Lindsey Wilson as she finished the final round with 14-over par 86, while finishing the tournament 33rd overall with a 51-over par 267. Cordeiro started to settle in late in her round with three-consecutive pars on holes No. 4, 5 and 6, but she went 4-over par on her final three holes.
As a team, the Blue Raiders finished third in par four scoring as they averaged 4.66 strokes on the par four holes. Lindsey Wilson's 130 pars were also third best in the field.
After the final round of the tournament, Vincent and Jimenez were named to the All Mid-South Conference Second Team.
Campbellsville's Cassidy Scantland was named the MSC Golfer of the Year, while Sieker of Cumberlands earned MSC Freshman of the Year honors.
