COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson women's swim team captured first place at the LWC Fall Frenzy after the two-day event concluded on Saturday at the Holloway Center Natatorium.
The Blue Raiders accumulated 910 total team points, beating out second-place Campbellsville (Ky.) (812 points) and third-place Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.) (795 points) in the five team event.
Lindsey Wilson opened the second session on Saturday morning with a win in the 200-yard medley relay. Sarah Hahn, Ines Khiyara, Courtney Fleeger and Jessica Macdonald teamed up to win the event with a national A standard time of one minute and 55.50 seconds. The second LWC relay team in the event composed of Bailey Seitz, Kylie Gehefer, Caitlin Freeny and Emily Wood captured fourth in the event while also hitting the A standard mark.
Macdonald won the 200 free with a time of 2:00.74, good enough for the A cut. She beat out teammate Khiyara for the win by less than a second. Khiyara's time was also good enough for the A mark.
The quartet of Wood, Fleeger, Macdonald and Khiyara captured the win in the 800-yard free relay with a time of 8:29.18, another A standard. Two spots behind them in third place, Hahn, Seitz, Freeny and Hailee Scheffer clocked in at 9:01.29 with another A cut.
Wood went on to win the 1,650 free with a B cut and Khiyara added to her win total with a victory in the 200 back, achieving a B standard. Macdonald followed with another win in the 100 free at 55.79, grabbing an A cut along the way.
It was a one-two-three finish for the Blue Raider crew of Khiyara, Freeny and Gehefer in the 200 breaststroke. Khiyara separated herself from the field, finishing over 15 seconds quicker than Freeny in second while capturing an A cut.
Fleeger got an individual win of her own in the 200 butterfly and finished as the runner-up in the 400-yard individual medley race as Wood took second in the 100 breaststroke. Macdonald added a third in the 100 back with a B cut time of 1:03.32.
In the final event of the night, Seitz, Wood, Macdonald and Khiyara took second in the 400 free relay at 3:52.12. Hahn, Gehefer, Fleeger and Freeny took fifth at 4:07.03 as both quartets achieved a national A standard on the night.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action for dual season on Oct. 1 at home against Cumberlands (Ky.).
