COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 4-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team rode a strong defensive showing past No. 23-ranked Pikeville (Ky.), 89-62, on Thursday night.

The Blue Raiders (16-0, 4-0 Mid-South Conference) led wire to wire and extended their program-record win streak to 16 games.

Defensively, Lindsey Wilson limited the Bears (12-6, 2-3 MSC) to just 62 points on 35.8 percent shooting. Pikeville entered Thursday night with the most-prolific three-point attack in NAIA Division I, having made 171 three pointers at a 39.7-percent clip, but made just four of its 23 attempts from deep against the Blue Raiders, a season-low 17.6 percent from deep for the Lindsey Wilson defense and the lowest mark of the season for the Bears.

On the other side of the ball, eight Lindsey Wilson players scored six or more points with four players breaking double digits.

Kayla Richardson led all scorers with a season-high 18 points. Kayla Styles (12 points and 13 rebounds) and J'Nayah Hall (17 points and 10 rebounds) both recorded double-doubles for the Blue Raiders, their seventh and fourth double-doubles, respectively.

Malerie Martin filled the box score for Lindsey Wilson with seven points, six rebounds, four assists, two steals and one block. The six boards matches a season-high for the sophomore forward.

The Blue Raiders opened the game on a 12-2 run and never looked back. Richardson scored five points in the first four minutes, and Jynea Harris's three pointer at the 5:42 mark gave her team a 10-point advantage.

Pikeville recovered from the opening blow to pull to within 15-6, but the Blue Raiders countered with a 10-0 run to take a 19-point lead, their largest advantage of the first quarter, before finishing the period leading 25-10.

Richardson scored nine first-quarter points for Lindsey Wilson on two-of-four shooting from deep. As a team, the Blue Raiders made four of their first eight attempts from behind the arc.

Lindsey Wilson maintained its edge in the second quarter, taking the largest lead of the game thus far at 44-17 with 2:16 left before the half.

The Blue Raiders cooled off from deep in the second period, shooting just 2-of-11 from behind the arc, but held the Bears to 1-of-5 shooting from three.

Pikeville's first made three pointer came in the final 31 seconds of the half. The Bears shot 1-of-9 from behind the arc in the first 20 minutes.

The second half played out in similar fashion with the Blue Raiders out-scoring its opponent 44-37 after the break. Lindsey Wilson's starting five scored 32 of their 68 points in the second half, led by a nine-point outing by Chanel Roberts.

The Blue Raiders built their largest lead of the game at 34 points with 4:48 remaining in the game on a Roberts basket. Lindsey Wilson shot 40 percent from the floor in the second half.

The Bears' two leading scorers for the season, Devin Conley and Kelah Eldridge, scored 12 and nine, respectively. The duo entered the game averaging a combined 30 points per game.

Lindsey Wilson out-rebounded Pikeville 49-34 and enjoyed a 27-12 edge in second-chance points.

The Bears committed 18 turnovers in the game, leading to 22 points for the Blue Raiders.
