Box Score MARIETTA, Ga. – The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team opened the second half of their Mid-South Conference schedule with a 108-67 road victory over Life (Ga.) on Saturday at the Eagles' Nest.
The Blue Raiders (22-0, 8-0 MSC) shot 61.5 percent from the field, just missing out on passing the previous best mark this year (62.3 percent). Lindsey Wilson also missed out on matching their season high for points scored by one point. Life drops to 5-19 on the season and 0-9 in MSC play.
Chanel Roberts scored a team-high 19 points on 8-of-8 shooting from the floor. Kayla Styles hit 8-of-9 shots for 18 points, 16 of which came in the first half. Jynea Harris scored a season-high 13 points, including 11 at the free throw line. Heidi Huffman added 12 points, all in the second half on three pointers, and Malerie Martin also finished with 12 points. Every Blue Raider that played in the game scored at least two points.
Lindsey Wilson had a strong opening quarter to the game, including an 11-0 run to start the contest and forcing an early trio of Life turnovers. As a team, the Blue Raiders shot a blazing 63.2 percent from the floor (12-for-19), while Styles and Martin both connected on a pair of three pointers in the frame. LWC dominated the glass, outrebounding the Running Eagles 12-4 in the first 10 minutes of play en route to a 30-15 lead.
The excellent shooting continued in the second quarter for LWC as the Blue Raiders opened the frame on a 19-5 run, capped off by a J'Nayah Hall fast-break layup that made it 49-20 with 4:57 to play before the break.
By the time the halftime buzzer had sounded the Blue Raiders had opened up a 31-point lead over Life at 61-30. Lindsey Wilson shot 64.7 percent in the first half and made five three pointers to go along with a 12-of-17 mark from the charity stripe, where Harris hit 8-of-9 attempts.
Life shot 38.7 percent in the first half and made a pair of three pointers. Lindsey Wilson dominated the glass by outrebounding the Running Eagles 22-9.
Styles had 16 points at the break, 12 of which came in the first quarter. Roberts and Martin also both hit double figures at halftime with 11.
Lindsey Wilson opened the second half on a 10-3 run and continued to shoot the ball well from the floor. Huffman hit a trio of three pointers in the quarter as the Blue Raiders pushed the lead to 40-plus points at the 4:14 mark after a pair of Harris free throws. Lindsey Wilson led 91-51 after three quarters.
The Blue Raiders outscored Life by one point at 17-16 in the fourth quarter, but the damage had been done in the opening three quarters as Lindsey Wilson came away with the regular season sweep of the Running Eagles.
Along with a better shooting percentage, LWC outrebounded Life 39-23 and had 19 assists compared to just six by the Running Eagles.
Kayla Kelly led Life with 14 points in the loss.
Lindsey Wilson extends their program-record win streak to 22-straight games.
The Blue Raiders return to action on Thursday, Feb. 2 when rival Campbellsville (Ky.) visits Biggers Sports Center.
