MARS HILL, N.C. – The Lindsey Wilson men's swim team battled a pair of NCAA Division II opponents on Friday evening, defeating King (Tenn.) 157-63, but falling to host Mars Hill (N.C.) 149-100.
The Blue Raiders managed three wins out the 14 events on the evening, with each win coming from a different swimmer.
Clemens Paetzold won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 54.65 seconds, which was good enough for a national A standard. Jose Prado de Lima won the 50-yard butterfly event with a time of 24.70 seconds, and Jonas Mueller won the 50-yard breaststroke event with a time of 27.96 seconds.
Both the 200-yard freestyle relay and 200-yard medley teams earned national cuts while placing second in their respective races.
Paetzold, Mueller, Prado de Lima and Zac Patzer teamed up for a time of 1:40.83 in the 200-yard medley relay, while the secondary team of Paul Pavala, Hayden Krause, Manny Griego and Alex Van Winkle recorded a time of 1:47.90, also earning a national cut in the event.
The 200-yard free relay squad of Paetzold, Michael Peck, Mueller and Patzer achieved their national cut with a time of 1:33.05.
Mueller added a B cut in the 100-yard breaststroke after finishing second with a time of 1:01.13.
Griego, Peck, Paetzold, Krause, Pavala and Patzer each contributed additional second or third-place finishes on the evening for the Blue Raiders.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action on Oct. 21 as the Blue Raiders host Asbury (Ky.).
