Big first half leads Women's Basketball past Brescia 62-46

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team defeated Brescia (Ky.) 62-46 in the Blue Raiders' home opener on Tuesday night at Biggers Sports Center.

The No. 8-ranked Blue Raiders (3-0) outscored the visiting Bearcats (2-1) by 23 points in the first half en route to the win.

Reagan Turner just missed out on a double-double in her first collegiate home game, posting 14 points and a team-high nine rebounds, adding five assists. Kayla Styles matched Turner for the team lead in points with 14, collecting seven rebounds of her own. Gerda Paulauskaite also had seven boards and three blocks, while Dakota Smith had six rebounds.

Lindsey Wilson led 5-0 to start the contest, but struggled for most of the quarter finding a shooting rhythm from the field. The Blue Raiders made just 2-of-8 shots from the floor to start the game, finishing the quarter shooting 4-of-12. Conversely, Brescia managed just a 2-for-20 mark from the floor as LWC led 14-4 after the first 10 minutes.

The Blue Raiders got off to a better start in the second quarter hitting three of their first four shots, including a pair of three pointers from Heidi Huffman and Turner, as part of a 10-1 run that made it 24-5. Lindsey Wilson eventually outscored the Bearcats 23-10 in the frame to take a 37-14 lead into halftime.

Lindsey Wilson shot 46.2 percent in the first half, hitting 4-of-9 attempts from three. Brescia managed just a 17.6 percentage from the floor in the opening half and made just 1-of-17 three point attempts.

Turner collected 10 of her 14 points in the first half.

The third quarter was an even split as far as points as both teams collected 14 each. Brescia outscored the Blue Raiders 18-11 in the fourth quarter, but the deficit was too steep to overcome as Lindsey Wilson secured the 62-46 victory.

The Blue Raiders finished shooting 40.7 percent from the floor and 29.4 percent from deep, while the Bearcats shot 27.6 from the floor and 17.2 percent from three point range.

The Blue Raiders are back in action on Friday as they host Webber International (Fla.) at 6 p.m. CT.
