Women's Basketball defeats Carver College 77-37 Thursday

COLUMBIA, Ky. - The No. 8-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team defeated Carver College (Ga.) 77-37 on Thursday at Biggers Sports Center.

Reagan Turner scored 17 points for the Blue Raiders (7-1) and matched a career-high in assists with five. Kayla Styles recorded her second double-double of the season scoring 17 points and grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds. Styles also recorded three blocks. Devin Cheatum scored 15 points while Beth Owens scored a career-high nine.

The Blue Raiders outshot the Cougars (1-7) 50.9 percent to 22.7 percent. Lindsey Wilson limited Carver to just 3-of-17 shooting from beyond the arc. The Blue Raiders held a 42-24 edge in points in the paint, a 50-35 advantage in rebounds and recorded eight blocks.

Lindsey Wilson opened the game on a 9-2 run. Leading 9-5, the Blue Raiders went on an 8-0 run to increase their lead to 17-5 with 3:04 to play in the first quarter. The Cougars responded with a 6-0 run of their own to trim the Lindsey Wilson lead to 17-11 with just under 20 seconds to play in the quarter. After the first quarter, the Blue Raiders led 19-11.

The Blue Raiders shot 46.7 percent from the field and made one shot from beyond the arc. Lindsey Wilson limited the Cougars to 38.5 percent shooting and 20 percent from the three point line. Turner scored eight points in the quarter while Styles and Molly Stone scored four apiece.

Lindsey Wilson's defense smothered the Cougars and held them to just 2-of-22 shooting in the second quarter while recording four blocks. The Blue Raiders had two double digit runs in the quarter. They opened on an 11-2 run and closed out the half with a 10-2 run.

Turner led the way for the Blue Raiders at the half with 13 points while Cheatum added 11. Lindsey Wilson shot 56 percent in the half and held Carver to 20 percent.

Both teams struggled in the third quarter as Lindsey shot just 28.6 percent and the Cougars were 3-of-13 from the field. The Blue Raiders hot shooting continued in the fourth where they shot 11-of-18 and closed out the game on a 9-0 run to secure the 77-37 victory.

Celiia Niambekoudougou was the only Cougar in double figures with 16 points.

Lindsey Wilson is back in action on Saturday when they host No. 25-ranked Talladega (Ala.) at 2 p.m. CT at Biggers Sports Center.
