No. 4 Men's Tennis falls to Austin Peay State, 4-3

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 4-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's tennis team lost to NCAA Division I-member Austin Peay State (Tenn.) on Saturday in a tightly-contested match that went down to the wire.

The match was tied 3-3 with only the sixth-seeded match between Javier Raya and Chad Woodham remaining. Raya took the first set 6-4, but Woodham responded by winning the second set 6-1. With the match in the balance, Woodham won the decisive third set, 6-3, to give the Governors (3-6) the victory.

Lindsey Wilson (4-3) claimed the first point of the day by winning two of three matches in doubles competition. NCAA scoring was used where two of three doubles wins are needed to secure the lone doubles point.

Cobi Ho and Ivan Solans Diaz opened the competition with a 6-3 victory over Alex Kartsonis and Woodham in the third-seeded doubles match.

Denis Porcic and Tomas Depiaggio then wrapped up the doubles point with a 6-4 win against Almantas Ozelis and Aleh Drobysh in the top-seeded doubles contest.

Porcic then put the Blue Raiders up 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-4 straight-sets victory over Manual Montenegro in the top-seeded singles match.

Austin Peay won the next three singles matches to take a 3-2 lead with only two matches remaining.

Kartsonis defeated Filip Persson 6-3, 6-3 in the fourth-seeded singles match. Depiaggio then dropped the third-seeded match to Aaron Jumonville in straight sets.

Solans Diaz pushed Ozelis to three sets in the second-seeded singles competition. The freshman from Alpicat, Spain won the middle set in the 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 defeat.

Ho leveled the match with a straight-sets victory over Drobysh in the fifth-seeded match. The sophomore from Gloucester, England took the first set 7-6 (3) before dispatching Drobysh 6-4 in the second set.

The Blue Raiders return to action tomorrow with another match against NCAA Division I competition. Lindsey Wilson takes on Southern Illinois-Carbondale on the road at 12:30 p.m. CT.
