Box Score WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The No. 4-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's tennis team defeated Cumberlands (Ky.) in a non conference matchup 7-2 on Thursday at the UC Tennis Complex.
The Blue Raiders (8-5) never trailed in the match and took the final four points of the match with the Patriots (3-10).
Tomas Depiaggio and Alonso Tellez got the opening match point with an 8-1 victory in the second-seeded doubles match against Sebastian Schiller and Dev Siam.
Cobi Ho and Ivan Solans Diaz took the third-seeded doubles flight against Tanishq Mahendu and Kenny Wilson 8-5. Cumberlands got its first point in the match at No. 1-seeded doubles match. Aatu Merenheimo and Leonardo Couto defeated Filip Persson and Javier Raya 7-5 in the tiebreaker.
Solans Diaz defeated Merenheimo in straight-sets 6-1, 6-2 in the top-seeded singles match to give the Blue Raiders a 3-1 lead. Mahendu topped Filip Persson in the third-seeded singles flight 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
Raya defeated Schiller in straight-sets 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 4-ranked singles match. No. 50-ranked Depiaggio dropped his first set against Leonardo Couto in the second-seeded singles match 7-5. Depiaggio then went on to win the next two sets 6-1, 6-1.
Ho and Tellez ended the match winning their singles matches in straight-sets. Ho defeated Kenny Wilson 6-1, 6-1 in the fifth-seeded doubles match and Tellez defeated Siam 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 6-ranked singles match.
The Blue Raiders are back in action on Saturday when they open up Mid-South Conference play on the road at Campbellsville (Ky.).
