Box Score

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson men's tennis team used a come-from-behind effort to top No. 16-ranked William Woods on Monday night 5-4 in the home opener at the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.

The No. 4-ranked Blue Raiders (5-4) fell behind after doubles play but won four of the six singles matches, including victories at the No. 5 and No. 6 flights to turn a late 4-3 deficit into a 5-4 win over the Owls (3-3) in a match that featured five lead changes.

William Woods led 2-1 following doubles play after wins at the second and third-seeded doubles matchups.

Denis Porcic and Tomas Depiaggio put Lindsey Wilson ahead early with an 8-4 win at the top doubles flight over Johnnie Carmichael and Oscar Barreiro. But the Owls came back with wins in the final two doubles matchups to hold a 2-1 match lead heading into singles play. Cobi Ho and Ivan Solans Diaz dropped an 8-3 decision to Marcos Vinicius and David Barbieri at the third flight. Javier Raya and Filip Persson battled with Christopher Vleeming and Christian Barbieri in the second-seeded flight. The match was tied as late as 7-7 before the Owl duo pulled away for the 9-7 win.

Solans Diaz leveled things up with a straight-sets victory (6-0, 6-4) over Christian Barbieri at the No. 2 singles match to make it 2-2 overall. Porcic then put LWC back out front with a 6-3, 6-2 win at the No. 1 match over Vleeming.

William Woods responded by capturing the next two singles matches, both coming in three sets after dropping the first set, to come within a point of clinching the match with a 4-3 lead. Depiaggio fell at the No. 3 flight 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, while Persson was bested at the No. 4 match 0-6, 6-2, 6-4.

Ho brought the overall match level once more at 4-4 with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Juan Avellaneda at the No. 5 singles match. The fifth and final lead change came when Raya outlasted David Barbieri with a 7-5, 6-4 win to give the Blue Raiders the 5-4 match victory.

The victory moves the Blue Raiders to 4-0 against NAIA competition this season.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action on Friday for a 1 p.m. CT match at Union (Ky.).
