Men's Tennis remains unbeaten in MSC, Beats Cumberlands 8-1

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- No. 5 Lindsey Wilson men's tennis won its eighth straight match today with an 8-1 win over visiting Cumberlands (Ky.) at the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.

The Blue Raiders won two of the three doubles matches and all six singles matches en route to improving 13-5 overall and 4-0 in the Mid-South Conference.

Alonso Tellez and Ivan Solans Diaz opened the scoring today with an 8-3 win over Sebastian Schiller and Tanishq Mahendu in the third-seeded match. The Blue Raider tandem improves to 6-1 on the season, including winning their last six matches for the 1-0 lead.

Javier Raya and Filip Persson doubled the Lindsey Wilson lead in the No. 2 doubles match. Raya and Persson won for the sixth time this season with an 8-3 win over Dev Sivam and Kenny Wilson for the 2-0 lead.

The Patriots (4-13, 2-2) captured their lone point of the day in the top-seeded doubles match. Aatu Merenheimo and Leonardo Couto outlasted Denis Porcic and Tomas Depiaggio 8-6 to trim the Lindsey Wilson lead to 2-1 entering singles play.

It was all Lindsey Wilson in the final six matches of the day.

Porcic -- ranked third in the NAIA -- started the singles run with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Merenheimo in the top-seeded match. He improves to 11-3 overall this season, including winning six straight at the top of the Lindsey Wilson lineup.

Solans Diaz extended the Lindsey Wilson lead to 4-1 in the second-seeded match. He dropped just three games in a 6-1, 6-2 win over Couto.

Tellez provided the match-winning point for the Blue Raiders in the fourth-seeded competition. Tellez improved to 6-0 on the season with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Schiller to give Lindsey Wilson the 5-1 lead.

Depiaggio needed three sets to win at three singles, while Raya and Colbi Ho won in straight sets at No. 5 and No. 6 singles to cap the 8-1 win.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 2 p.m. CT on Tuesday, April 4, as the Blue Raiders travel to Cumberland (Tenn.) in Lebanon, Tennessee.
