Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Fifth-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's tennis continued its winning ways with a 6-3 win today over host Cumberland (Tenn.) at the Tommy Gray Memorial Courts.
With the win, Lindsey Wilson clinches at least a share of the Mid-South Conference regular-season title. The Blue Raiders complete the regular season on Saturday at Pikeville (Ky.) with a chance to win the outright title.
Lindsey Wilson (14-5, 5-0 in the MSC) won two of the three doubles matches to take the early lead. Denis Porcic and Tomas Depiaggio claimed the first point of the day in the top-seeded doubles match while Ivan Solans Diaz and Alonso Tellez followed with a win in the second-seeded match.
In singles play, Porcic won for the seventh consecutive time in singles with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Riccardo Ferraris in the top-seeded match to push the Lindsey Wilson lead to 3-1.
Depiaggio and Solans Diaz followed Porcic's win with victories of their own in the second and third-seeded matches. Each won in straight sets to help the Blue Raiders reach five team points and the team win.
Cumberland (3-5, 1-2) claimed wins at four and five singles. Ramon Puertolas won after Tellez retired and Axel Lucich won in a third-set superset.
Cobi Ho defeated Jose Ortega Vela 8-3 in a superset in the sixth-seeded match to close out the match.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 2 p.m. CT on Saturday, April 8, as the Blue Raiders travel to Pikeville.
