Women's Basketball falls to Campbellsville 68-63 on Thursday

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 8-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team fell to No. 3-ranked Campbellsville 68-63 on Thursday in a Mid-South Conference matchup at Biggers Sports Center.

Three Blue Raiders (16-4, 3-2 MSC) were in double figures led by Kayla Styles who scored a game-high 30 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. She made all 16 of her free throw attempts matching a season-high. Reagan Turner added 14 points and Teanna Curry chipped in with 11.

Lindsey Wilson was outshot by the Tigers (19-3, 5-1 MSC) 40.3 percent to 32.7 percent. The Blue Raiders were outrebounded 43-37 and committed a season-high 28 turnovers and forced 24 Campbellsville turnovers with nine steals.

After Campbellsville took a 8-6 lead with 6:39 to play, Devin Cheatum connected on a shot from beyond the arc to give the Blue Raiders a 9-8 lead with 6:11 to play in the quarter. Campbellsville responded with a 7-0 run regaining the lead at 15-9. After Styles cut the lead back to four with a pair of free throws, the Tigers went on a 7-2 run to increase their lead to 22-13. Lindsey Wilson ended the quarter on a 5-0 run to trim the deficit to 24-21.

Lindsey Wilson trimmed the lead to 28-25 with 5:12 left in the half before Campbellsville responded with an 11-2 run increase their lead 39-27 with 1:32 in the half. The Blue Raiders scored four of the last six points of the half to cut the Tiger lead to 41-31.

Styles led the way at the half with 12 points. The Blue Raiders shot 30 percent from the field and from beyond the arc. The Tiger defense caused problems for Lindsey Wilson as they caused 17 turnovers with 10 steals. Campbellsville shot 46.2 percent in the half as Madison Faulkner led the way with 10 points.

After Lauren Turner increased the Tiger lead to 47-35 the Blue Raiders went on a 6-0 run trimming the lead to 47-41 with 2:12 to play in the third quarter. Campbellsville ended the third quarter on a 9-2 run to take a 56-43 lead into the final quarter.

The Blue Raiders used a 6-0 run to begin the third quarter to cut the Tiger lead to 56-49 with under eight to play. Lindsey Wilson trimmed the lead to 62-57 with a 6-0 run with 2:53 to play. Campbellsville once again went up by double digits with 1:41 to play before Lindsey Wilson cut it to four at 67-63 with 51 seconds to play. A Madison Stewart free throw with eight seconds left secured the 68-63 win for Campbellsville.

Campbellsville had four players in double figures led by Faulkner who scored 16 points. Madison Stewart added 13 points while Savannah Gregory and Madison Kaiser each added 11.

The Blue Raiders are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Georgetown (Ky.) for a MSC matchup at 1 p.m. CT.
